About

How it started...

Back in 2010, a friend of mine showed me a piece of jewelry she'd been working on that was a very simple mesh of two shapes of rings. I thought it was lovely and asked how she made it! When she said it was just random jumprings I got to thinking about what I could make with jumprings myself.

So after a trip to Michaels for jumprings and a cheap plier set, I went looking for ideas. I'd seen chainmaill before but never thought it was something I could do. It looked intricate and complicated and, well, likely to be a pain for my hands (I have carpal tunnel syndrome). IN the end, though, it was a matter of 'nothing ventured, nothing gained' so I gave it a try.

I was hooked.

I kept making and making and, after a while, got the urging from another friend or two to try putting my stuff up online. One thing led to another and before I knew it I had a shop on Etsy where I could put up my creations!

As for Irodama, the word is Japanese and means 'bead' in a very generic sense. I'm something of a Japanophile so that tends to poke its way into everything sooner or later.
