Very cute, quirky card, I found it perfect to send to my older brother. It came well packaged and quickly.

Beautiful card, the art work is very well done and evokes the emotion and thought behind sending it. It came very securely packaged and very quickly. I would highly recommend.

About

It started with a Valentine.

*Reader Alert* -If you're not one for long About stories, then you might want to quit reading right about . . . now.

I came to Etsy with backgrounds in Office Administration and Clinical Social Work.

Say what?!?

Yes. Maybe some of you, then, can understand why I had a huge craving for some WHIMSY in my life as well as having developed one heck of a creative itch that needed scratching. I was determined to scratch that itch. But how?? I had no formal art training. Our house, at that time, was a disaster as it was being gutted and rebuilt while we lived in it*(see below). Ugh. Don't get me started on the combined effects of a leaking house and termites or I'll never finish my About page. We had workmen in and around the house all day, every day . . . for fifteen months. I took a much needed break from my career in health care to stay close to home and keep an eye on things.

With the sound of hammering in the background, I cleared out a spot on our dining room table, pulled out a sketch book and just started doodling, playing with lettering, drawing animals, people, etc. Then I started making little clothes for my figures by cutting up papers and gluing them into dresses, shoes, hats. I'm a person who needs goals though. Valentines Day was coming up and while I was certainly no artist, surely I could make a Valentine card. Right? I started brainstorming. At the time I liked drawing horses ... in heels, thank you, so I made one using pens, washi papers and card stock. Then I pieced together a barn from magazine cut outs. I cut up a lot of little red and blue and pink hearts and filled the barn to overflowing. Voila - the horse coming home to a barn "full of love". I printed up a few and gave them to some family members for Valentines Day saying, "I made them!" Like I was five again.

I delved into things more, learned some techniques for staining and painting. Uncertain of what direction to go in, I did fit in making another card for Halloween. I saw improvement....Then came Christmas.

In the past couple of years I've been experimenting in lots of different art forms . .. abstract assemblages, strictly painting, etc. But I have a love of paper, scissors, glue ... I found myself making another card . . .then another . . and another.

Then I remembered a site called Etsy.

With six cards I started Isabel Greetings. And I've just been making it up as I go. I'm not a fast worker...wish I were, but I'm so proud of each piece I come up with. (I didn't know art could be such hard work(!!), and gratifying.). Then, one night I was introduced to someone as an 'artist' and I said, "uh...no." Then another friend referred to me as "The Accidental Artist". Okay, I'll take that:)

Thanks so much for visiting Isabel Greetings. I started this shop with greeting cards and notecards that are professionally printed from my original collage art in which I use a variety of papers, my own drawings and handmade templates to create. I hope you like them. I want to encourage people to continue sending cards and notes through the mail . . . actual handwriting is fabulous . . . anything to keep penmanship from becoming obsolete. Signing your name to a card, or better yet, including a handwritten note are encouraged. Pull out your pen and forget about emailing and texting for a few minutes. In this increasingly impersonal, technological world . . .let's get personal again.

The opening of this shop has led to my learning new techniques with collage. You will find examples of these in my art prints and my recently added section of OOAK collage art pieces. I would not put anything in my shop that I wouldn't use or frame/hang myself . . .so I hope you'll find something in these new sections that you would love to put in your home or office. OOAK collages make great gifts, too!
