Announcement   Combining a love of coffee and eco-friendliness, my bags are made from upcycled coffee bean bags and lined for strength and ease of use. I am working with several coffee roasters on Vancouver Island to help keep the burlap from landfills. I use recycled buttons for my bags and the pockets are also recycled materials. The bits of burlap I cannot use I pass on to local farmers and even beekeepers so I can achieve as close to zero waste as possible.

This bag was super cute! The shop was easy to work with and shipped on time. I think the price was a little steep, but I am overall happy with the product!

About

My love of coffee and eco friendly practices brought about my bags.

I had recently moved back to Vancouver Island, and with a special needs son, finding a job that fit did not work. I began to look at how a home based business would fit into my family's lifestyle and it was amazing. I met a lady who helped me to meet several coffee roasters in our area. Being an upcycle entrepreneur means that you need to have a steady supply of product to work with. I have formed lasting relationships with these roasters, it is a win-win situation. They do not have the bags in the garbage stream and I get to make my own product.
Last year, I was the recipient of a green grant and was able to buy an industrial sewing machine. I am now working on reclaimed leather and burlap bags. I could not have done that without the support of that grant.
I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude to those that have helped me, that is why I created the Autism purses. The Centre my son goes to helps special needs people of all ages and abilities. A donation of $10 goes to the Clements Centre, for every purse sold.
I will update this page, as more happens in my Entrepreneur Adventures!

Welcome to Island Java Bag. My bags are made form upcycled coffee bean bags that were destined for landfills. All of the designs on the bags are original from the actual coffee estates. I line all of my bags and use second hand material for pockets, as well as vintage buttons. This combination makes each bag unique.
