About

Started Late with Sewing

I started this shop when my son was born and he had a serious affection for blankets. After losing a few, I decided to try to make my own to save the $$ of buying new ones each time he lost one.

My first blanket came out exceptionally well. Somehow I got my corners nice and crisp and my technique was better than I thought possible.

See.....my mom always sewed when I was growing up. She made some clothes for me, costumes, pillows, and even made my wedding dress for me. She became very sick with kidney cancer around 2000. I was pregnant with my first child and she passed away before she got my meet my daughter (a year before my son was born).

When my daughter was born I still had not used the sewing machine my mom gave me, except to fix a few items that had holes in them, and maybe some pillows (how hard is it to make a square?!). But once I made that first blanket....I was surprised that it came out so good for my first time. So I tried other things. Cloth diapers, doll clothes, pajamas for my kids, items with ZIPPERS (they are pretty daunting the first time you try!!), blankets, hooded towels, banners, etc. I upgraded my machine and got an embroidery machine, and bought a serger. I just wanted to try more. But....even to this day I wished she was still around so I could ask her some advice with sewing. She always seemed to know how to do anything with her machine, and I remember her sitting there behind her machine, which was tucked away in a closet with a sliding door. Nothing fancy, not a huge stash of fabric, no fancy feet for her machine.....but she always made things look professional. Me? I've got some fancy feet (most of which I have not used), and let's not even go into how much fabric I have...... :)

I have some fun memories of my mom sewing, and I hope I get to pass down the tradition to my kids. And I want to share my wares with you.
