About

The Evolution of Crafting

I started out doing pretty bad embroidery when I was 3, I moved up to creating and designing clothes for my Barbies, and when I had my daughter 18 years ago I started making clothes for her. This was around the same time I began crafting and showing my work at craft fairs in the Los Angeles area.

Most of my customers came from word of mouth. People saw what I did for my daughter, her Halloween costumes have been particularly popular! I made Ren Faire costumes for friends and family, Fairy costumes for Halloween, and continued crafting on the side.

I moved to Las Vegas 8 1/2 years ago and unfortunately moved away from the good customer base I had built up in California. I decided to try Etsy to widen my audience and get my work out there. I do a little bit of everything, the only thing I had not learned how to do up until then was yarn crafts like crochet and knitting.

I went back to school four years ago to pursue my degree in Psychology, I am only halfway to my Bachelor's but I am finding myself drawn more to my studio than my homework.

For a number of years now I have been making everything from handbags, personal care items, quilts and blankets, household items and holiday decor. I am happy to be bringing my eclectic mix of projects to my Etsy site this year so keep checking back there will be lots of variety available, Including new, cross stitch patterns and kits designed and created by me, that can only be found on my site.

That was last year, as always the story continues. My family and I have moved to Oregon in January of 2015. We are so excited to be in a place where it is green and so peaceful. We moved to a small town outside of Salem where I think the sheep outnumber the people. We are nearly settled in and I now have my studio up and running! During the transition I tried my hand at learning some new tricks and have spent two months with the help of YouTube, teaching myself how to crochet. So I am excited to introduce a new category to my shop, Wonderful Hand Wovens. I have a variety of items including house wares like shower poufs and dish scrubbies for the kitchen, and scarves and afghans for those chilly winter months. I will also be expanding my selection of quilted items this year, I gave out quilted pieces to friends and family for Christmas 2014 and they were a huge hit.

As we move forward on the next leg of our journey we are excited you have chosen to come along with us. Thank you for supporting Ivory Tower Designs and may your journey be filled with magic and wonder!
