I absolutely love these and would buy all your work if I could. I have one child who looks worried, and one who looks confident. They are amazing. I'm waiting on the mats I ordered but I have the frames.

I Can't Help It, (if I wanted to).

My niece, Juli, told me the other day that I should really be an artist when I grow up. She said I draw pretty good. It's a little later than expected, but I promise you, Juli, I am getting there.

I should have known my future a long time ago, when learning to read was not nearly as important to me as which color should be best friends with red. (Pink was always the hardest color to find a friend for, it was just too ostentatious).

It's just that the title of "artist" is one that immediately raises eyebrows and suspicions. Dread of explaining myself is what prolonged my own vocalization that THAT is what I am. I should have known the moment I accepted that in this life, my feet will always be black from the charcoal soot of drawing. Or when there was nothing else I wanted so badly for Christmas as a few of my favorite color pastels. The nice ones that are as soft as butter and sit on the surface of the paper like swabs of cotton color. Or the hours I've spent in the paint aisle, analyzing fat tubes of paint, what scenes I might conjure with them. The color I am most proud of manages to be both green and pink at the same time. It's a contradiction of the color wheel, and should be a muddy brown at best. There is nothing that makes me so happy as to have the need for that color.

I suppose I am smitten. It's not so bad is it?

I wouldn't help it, (even if I could).

I am an artist from Denver, Colorado. Charcoal portraits and color pastel drawings are my strength, though I love painting in oil as well. Most often, the commissions I receive are for portraiture.

Additional policies and FAQs
-"What is my method for drawing charcoal portraits?"
After a process through which you and I pick the best image, I then draw the portrait by hand. In between, there some use of a computer to compose the image, but mostly it is just me holding a picture in my left hand, drawing with my right.

-"Why is it the same price for a portrait no matter the size?"
No matter the size (maximum 20 x 28 inches), it takes me an equal amount of time to complete a portrait. To be honest, I have an easier time making larger sized portraits- something to do with my style and technique.

-"I don't have one image where all my kids look good, can you collage different photos together to make a nice grouping?"
NO. I also will not make your child look happier, cleaner or smarter. Please, find a few photos, that as is, best represent the subject.

-"Can I send a photo by mail? Will you send it back in pristine condition?"
Electronic images are my preference. However I understand that is not always possible. If you must send a photo, upon receipt of it, I will make a scan of the image to work with. Your photo will immediately be returned in the condition which it is received.

-"How do you ship your artwork? Will it be safe?"
I ship drawings in a tube, with a piece of foam to hold them in place. Paintings are shipped in a box, well guarded with foam.

-"How long will it take from start to finish for a custom piece?"
Upon your providing images, it should take a maximum of 2 weeks for the piece to be finished.
