**About the Artist: Arie Reinhardt Taylor

Arie Reinhardt Taylor was born in 1921 in Catawba County in North Carolina. Arie bases her work on scenes from her life in rural Catawba County in the 1920's and '30's. Her paintings provide a sense of nostalgia for any viewer regardless of whether or not they are familiar with the scene. People from an older generation are reminded of the way things used to be in "the old days", while younger generations learn what life was like before cell phones, computers, and video games. Arie is the daughter of Minnie Smith Reinhardt, who also was a well known artist. Arie Reinhardt Taylor is a 2nd generation artist and her art is well know throughout western North Carolina. Her original oil paintings and folk art prints are internationally collected and can be found in private collections all over the world! She has painted over 40 years out of her 95 years and over 1,000 paintings in oils and watercolor.

About

Story telling on canvas and the love of creating with paint and yarn, Hickory, North Carolina

Arie loves to paint memories of her childhood on the farm in the 20s and 30s western North Carolina. She started painting in the 1950s and is proficient in oils and watercolor. Over the years she had painted more than 1,000 paintings. She is a renowned artist in the Folk art field. She has recently taught herself to knit and crochet and loves to make hats and scarves. We both love to paint and crochet.

The American Dream
I think everyone in America has a dream. My American dream was to be an artist. As far back as I can remember I was interested in painting. I remember back when I was in high school, I was so excited to be asked to design and draw the covers of the Junior-Senior prom programs. We did not have typewriters or printers so we had to do each one of them by hand.
God has truly blessed me with a wonderful gift that I have tried to live up to and for that I thank Him so much. I have tried to show in my paintings the way farm life was for me growing up. All these things are in the past and are no more. Most of the old home places I have painted are now either falling down or gone.
Most of my paintings are based on memories of the past that are so clear to me. I hope in some way I can bring back a memory to someone of their past. A part of that life is gone forever and only footprints left behind. My footprints are my paintings.
