My name is James, I was born and bred in Kent, United Kingdom and because of reasons involving both love and finances I currently live with my dutch girlfriend part - time in Nijmegen, the Netherlands and in Canterbury, England. (I know, it's not the most convenient situation... but with a healthy dose of flexibility and a big van to travel forth and back both me and my girlfriend still manage to enjoy this way of living)

Having spent my studies and early career mainly office based as a landscape architect working around the UK and Ireland, I soon discovered my passion for interacting and engaging with people to develop ideas that are personal to them. I take great pleasure in seeing people enthusiastic with a space or product that can be enjoyed for years to come.

Falling victim to the recession of 2009, I found myself in a challenging situation that turned out to be a great opportunity to reassess what I enjoyed doing most. I decided that too much time in my working life was spent in front of a computer screen, caught up in the administration of projects. I felt I lost touch with the personal side of things and most importantly, the hands- on side of being a creative professional.

I had always loved working with wood and decided to take the leap and follow my passion. I retrained to be a carpenter and started my own company. I now build furnishings made to order, which gives me a close working relationship with clients, essentially building with them, not just for them.

I have two workshops: one in Kent in the UK and the one where I spend most of my time is an amazing workshop in Nijmegen, Netherlands, situated in a former soup factory! If you ever get the chance, do pop by as it is an amazing creative hub of independent artisans, makers and entrepreneurs in a vibrant up and coming part of the city. You will have a great time, promise. Google Honig Nijmegen and you'll find it.

Selling on Etsy is still fairly new to me since I mainly make furniture on demand and never really thought people would consider buying bespoke furnishings online, call me old fashioned.. ;-)
But more and more people asked me if I had an online shop so I decided to join this beautiful community of artisan enthusiasts and I am really excited to see where my little online store will take me....

Do drop me a line if you have any questions, I would love to hear what you think of my work.

Additional policies and FAQs
Specific requirements/ custom made orders:
Because we understand the process of ordering a custommade piece of furniture (on this scary worldwild web) might be a bit daunting, we want to make the experience as enjoyable as possible for you.

This is how we handle custom made orders at James Allworthy:

-get in touch with us and tell us what you have in mind
-we agree on a price
-we draw up a design
-we charge you only HALF the amount of the price in a listing we make for you
-we show you photos of what we’re making for you, (always happy to keep you updated)
-then there are two options…you either tell us you’re not happy and we make adjustments until you are … or …you are happy, pay us the other half and we ship it out to you!
