Announcement   FREE SHIPPING FOR AUSTRALIAN BUYERS ON BEADED COLLARS
UNIQUE AFFORDABLE ARTISAN BEAD EMBROIDERY & JEWELLERY
My designs sell in art galleries here in Australia but I also list on Etsy and through my private website. Sometimes, I find it difficult to keep up with designs.
I agonize over every single piece I create and will often make a piece and take it apart several times until I am happy with the quality of the finish. I do not use pen and paper to design my originals. I use my trusty bent beading needles and good quality imported beading thread. I have been doing creative sewing since the age of four. I take inspiration from the semi precious stones I so enjoy looking at. Each semi precious cabochon will set the tone of the piece I sit down and create over the coming weeks in my extremely busy creative year.
Beaded collars can take up to one month to create whilst beaded cuffs may take as little as one week (not often though). I gain a lot of aesthetic inspiration from the natural environment. The intense light, abundant blue sky days and ever changing Australian landscape provide me with a lot of design possibilities. My only problem is finding enough hours in the day to sit down and create beautiful swathes of colour, form and texture with the needle. Each completed design is photographed, cleaned and packed away, ready to post around the world. I do not look at designs as I want to avoid replication.

PRIVATE COMMISSIONS - WELCOME AND A BIG PART OF MY BUSINESS
I also create custom order for people at no extra cost. Please ask me if you like something but would like some other bead or element included in the design. I do this all the time for valued clients, especially American ladies. I do not bung on higher prices for commissions. Private commissions are comparable in price to finished pieces available in this shop.

SHIPPING
Offering combined shipping and excess shipping costs refunded.
Take advantage of the fantastic dollar exchange rate between US dollars and our Australian dollar and purchase from my shop. You actually pay a lot less in US dollar terms because of the exchange rate being in US favour.
Shipping is a nightmare in getting right. I sell a lot to the USA and please rest assured that I ALWAYS REFUND the cost of shipping if what you have paid me is dearer than what the post office charges. All this being said, higher cost bead embroidery pieces are only posted with insurance.

About

A LIFE LONG FASCINATION WITH COLOUR

I took up beading in April 2013 in the hope this new activity would "cure" my persistent dyslexia. I suffered through two formal classes and decided not to continue. Lovely people in this class but just not for me. I came home to my studio, closed the big sliding doors and have not stopped creating since.

I started my shop in October 2013 as I decided I really should consider selling my wearable beaded art creations after having success in selling them in my home state of Victoria and in Canada as well. I now have a following in lovely America. I have had a life long fascination with colour and this does not look like abating. I live a reclusive artistic life and I have never misconstrued being alone as being lonely. I like my own company as this is my best creating time. I am now a member of the Australian Society of Marine Artists as I have a passion for painting tormented seascapes.

We recently moved to Drouin in West Gippsland - lovely dairy country in our home state of Victoria. I no longer have a studio to myself but enjoy my own beading room which I am in the process of setting up whilst dealing with online beading supplies sales. I work long hours - up to 16 hours a day during my peak creativity time but I try to slow down in between. Creativity does not select the hour or the day it arrives so I try to make the best of what comes along and just sit down and produce unique designs which are my hallmark.

I enjoy the company of four legged animals a lot and will often share my beading room with non shedding dogs who all like to lounge about the place and enjoy the abundant light that streams in through the north facing window. Priscilla my little Maltese you can see in my logo photo, went blind over a four day period in early April 2015. You can read up about Priscilla's story here:

https://janebaridesign.wordpress.com/

Prissy now spends even more time with me in my beading room as I cannot leave her alone; especially since our move interstate. Priscilla now wears Muffin's Halo, a blind animal aid that I purchased from America. Please read my blog and please pass it on to any people who have a blind dog to care for. Muffin's Halo has made Priscilla very happy again and it has restored her confidence in a very big way. Our other younger dog Teddy, an adorable Shih Tzu also enjoys lounging on his own bed underneath my beading table, all the while keeping an eye on what is happening on our road.

I usually have two projects on the go and towards the end of each project, I am already receiving quick mental flashes of the design possibilities of the next project in my mind. At this stage of the process, the mental flashes I receive are of the completed design. Of course, when the ideas run out I have to stop the design work for a while until I start my fractious colourful dreams again as my dreams provide inspiration for designs.

Design is via inspiration from the natural environment. I do not use pen and paper to design as this defeats the purpose for me personally. A lot of my designs come from my dreams as I dream in vivid colour and have good dream recall. Often times, I will place a selection of beads and findings on a beading board, along with a feature item and leave them on the side table until that special moment of inspiration strikes. During such times, I cannot get the needle threaded quickly enough to commence yet another exciting creative journey into the unknown.

I spent most of 2013 with the bead embroidery. I have returned to pastel and acrylic painting too when not beading. I currently reside with my husband and a menagerie of animals, most of whom were abandoned at various stages of their lives by heartless human scum. Since our move though, I am concentrating on addictive bead embroidery as this is my first love you see. My mother taught me creative sewing at the age of four and I have not stopped since. The passion for the needle has been a feature of many generations of the women in my family. My own cousin is a master lace maker in the north of Italy.

Thank you for visiting my little Etsy shop and for allowing me to share my story with you all. Please remember that every day is called the present because it really is a gift. Don't waste it.

Welcome visitors and thank you for stopping at my beading room. I live a rather solitary artist's life, spending my allotted time in my creative space nearly every day of the year. I purposely avoid a lot of human contact, preferring instead, the company of our abundant dogs, cats and pet sheep. My only song for the day is birdsong in our ever growing garden and the sighing of the ever present wind through our trees. This is sufficient "noise" to sustain me during my solitary sojourn with the needle and beads. I create each lovely piece in a clean, smoke free environment. I find human noise rather distracting. I tend to "suffer" over my beaded artwork creations as each one of them takes a little bit out of me. However, I have to keep on creating these wearable art works because I have so many ideas that come to me in my dreams during my routinely fractious sleep patterns. Insomnia does have its creative benefits. My little Maltese friend Priscilla is often in my beading room with me as I quietly create my works. Priscilla is a source of inspiration for me as she went blind with SARDS over a four day period in 2015. We can learn a lot from the wisdom of dogs because they are creatures of the moment who appreciate what they have in their life and make the best of it. Eleanor Roosevelt herself said that every day is called the present because it is a gift. How very true. I would be a lost soul in this life if the needle and thread were taken away from me. Beads are my sustenance, my discourse, my narrative my life.

Returns and exchange details
If you are not satisfied with your purchase, please contact me and I will try to work with you regarding this. Purchasers must contact me within three days upon receipt of the item to let me know why they wish to return the item. Please understand that under Australian law, I cannot accept a return on an item if you simply change your mind about the purchase or you decide you do not like the colours, etc. Please understand that your individual computer monitor may slightly alter the colours you see. This is why I always photograph my creations in good quality, outside light on a cloudy day. This allows me to post a photograph that is as close to the real item as possible. I also photograph in the little photographic booth my husband has set up in the corner of my studio. I use good quality white light for the photography and no camera flash at all so that you are able to see the colour as close to possible as I see it.

Items that are to be returned must be returned with insurance and a signature from me as the recipient and in the same condition as when they were purchased. The cost of the return of the item, including the insurance and the signature for the delivered parcel method of return, must be borne by the purchaser. All items returned must be in their original condition and not have been worn (I have a very good sense of smell!). Items must be returned to me in their original packaging with extra wrapping in the internal packaging. Return postage costs are not refundable at all.

I try and make all my clients happy with their products. However I have not had any returns yet as I try to create each piece with integrity and good quality industrial strength adhesives, beading foundation and beading thread which is one of the best (Fireline). All my works have their individual quirks which is what hand made is all about. If you are seeking "perfection", consider buying cheap, soulless massed produced items instead.

Long live hand made!
Payment
LOCAL PICK UP AVAILABILITY:
Local pick up is also available straight from my beading room to you. I welcome this method of purchase as I am able to chat with you about your choice, etc and you can see and have the added bonus of being able to try things on before purchasing.

OVERSEAS PURCHASERS:
Reserves, hold for me and laybys (layaway) attracts a 25% deposit with a six window to effect full payment. Please note that this deposit is non refundable should you change your mind. Non refunded deposits are donated to animal charity. Please understand that whilst the goods are put away in your name, they are not available for others to view and purchase. This is why the deposit is non refundable. Under Australian law, simply changing your mind about the purchase does not constitute grounds for refund.
Shipping
COMBINED SHIPPING - If you purchase several items, I will combine shipping in order to save you costs.

EXCESS POSTAL CHARGES WILL BE REIMBURSED BACK TO YOU. I can only do this after visiting the post office and placing your parcel over the counter. If the postal cost is less than what I have quoted in this shop, you will be notified and reimbursed.

Items that have been paid for are generally shipped within 1-2 business days. All items over the value of $100 that are shipped overseas generally are shipped with the addition of insurance and this cost will be above the postage rate. I cannot provide exact shipping costs as a rule because they vary so much from country to country; which is why I have put a bog standard $35 postage and packaging fee on other countries outside Australia for expensive creations. I have tried to figure out our complicated postal system but I cannot fathom it.

However, if you are interested in purchasing one of my lovely creations, please do not hesitate to contact me and I will send my ever reliable husband down to our local post office to make inquiries as to the exact postal and insurance costs you would have to pay to receive the item in question. Please note that if you email me during the weekend, you will have to wait until regular business hours for the post office to open before Jonathan can ascertain your shipping and insurance costs.

Please note that purchasers will be responsible for any import duties and taxes on these items.

As I hazard a guess at shipping costs, please rest assured that any excess shipping charges are refunded and I do this all the time in my Etsy beading shop.
Additional policies and FAQs
PACKAGING:
Each beaded collar that is sold is wrapped inside a conveniently sized A4 sized plastic file box. I have hunted around for a suitable postage container for some time and decided to use these A4 sized plastic filing boxes as they are readily accessible and provide a nice, firm interface between the beaded collar inside and the outside world. The collar is also carefully wrapped inside this flat box and has proven the best way to ship my works. The file box is then further contained in a postage box for added security and this is stuck down within an inch of its life folks as my husband Jonathan is a dab hand with the tape dispenser. I must reiterate here that all national and international sales that exceed $100 (Australian) must be accompanied by insurance to cover the cost of the item in question. This cost must be borne by the purchaser and it is in your best interests to take out insurance and sign for your precious parcel in order to guarantee delivery. From personal experience, there is nothing worse than that sinking feeling you get when you have paid for something and it is lost in the mail system. I do not want my valued clients to experience this which is why I insist on insurance.

Lesser valued necklace and earring sets are presented in a recycled cardboard box with padding. However, you are free to take out shipping insurance on these items as well but you will have to ask for this as the postage cost will be higher. Jon can easily pop down to our local post office to obtain a quote with insurance.

Earrings and bracelets are usually presented in a drawstring bag or a lovely Chinese fabric bag.

Each piece is also wrapped up with bubble wrap and placed in a thick envelope for added strength and safety during postage.

LAY BY/LAY AWAY
I also offer lay by/lay away so you can purchase your item in several installments. Please Convo me about this service as I can work out a payment plan to suit your pocket.

AFTER I PHOTOGRAPH EACH ITEM:
Each piece of hand made jewelry is thoroughly cleaned and stored away, ready for sale.

CARING FOR YOUR DESIGNER BEADWORK:
Please read the following basic instructions for my one off pieces.

1) Do not tug, pull or habitually fiddle with your necklace. I know a lot of us do this without thinking. This habit might be alright with mass produced stuff but not the finer, hand crafted items that need our care and attention. Rough and constant fiddling with jewelry can weaken the connections. Remember, this is a hand made product and not mass produced rubbish.

2) Do not immerse this bead work in any water! This includes swimming in the ocean, taking a bath (!) or swimming in chlorinated or salt water swimming pools or, dare I say it ..... wearing one of my items in the sauna or shower!

3) Do not put any perfumes on this bead work. Put perfumes on your skin instead and keep them away from my designer works.

4) Do not throw your precious bead work piece in a heap in a drawer. Please store this bead work in a flat and dark place when not in use. If you are purchasing a beaded collar, consider keeping the plastic filing box for storage.

5) Do not leave this bead work lying around in the hot sun! This includes not leaving your precious artwork on a sunny bench in the house.

6) To clean your precious piece, take a sponge, dip it in warm water and squeeze out the excess water. Gently blot the wrung out sponge over the needlework. Dry off thoroughly before storing.

7) Do not soak your beaded art in water. Just a gentle wipe and proper storage will ensure you enjoy this piece for many years to come.

8) Do not handle your necklace or bracelet roughly or throw them down onto a bench, etc as this may damage the crystal beads or polymer clay cabochons (when used) beyond repair.

I hope you enjoy wearing your precious beaded art creation just as much as I have enjoyed creating it.

CARING FOR ITEMS I HAVE MADE WITH TERRACOTTA CLAY OR POLYMER CLAY:
Pretty much the same rules apply for my clay creations. Do not drop them on the floor and most of all, do not immerse them in water. Each clay piece is sealed with several layers of archival quality sealer in order to preserve the pastes, micas and acrylic finishes on the clay surface.

LONG LIVE HANDMADE!
