About

The Alchemy of Adornment

Humans started making beads out of sandstone 40 thousand years ago. According to archeologists, this desire to adorn is unique to humans. Since stringing my first love beads, I have been fascinated with adornment. My early pieces were made with seed beads and had a Native American influence. As my income rose and my eyesight waned, wire, gemstones, and metals became my mediums. I enjoy creating items that are one of a kind, with an organic, earthy style. Basket weaving skills have morphed into free form wire wraps. The transformative energies of fire are celebrated in my fold form pieces. My love of the earth inspires me to recycle and re purpose as in the Trashy Tinsel reArt line.

The artist behind Jan E O Jewelry is Jan E. O’Banion. I was born and raised in a small neighborhood in SE Portland. Being reared with little money and four siblings, I learned how to be resourceful and make my own adornments. With a handful of books and a couple of workshops, I am primarily a self taught jewelry artist.

In my mid twenties, I followed my dream of moving to the country and building a home. Deep in the woods of the coast range lays the “Shiva Shop” where the alchemy of transforming raw materials into jewelry takes place.

After retiring from school counseling, this alchemy is now a full time passion of mine. I can be found most afternoons in the shop with two rescue dogs as supervisors. Unless of course the weather is nice, then you will find me and the dogs creating magic in the great outdoors.

I am a self taught jewelry artist and this is the studio where I design my creations. It has a statute of Shiva on the top and I see it as a place of alchemy where raw materials are transformed into jewelry.

Shop policies

I love creating jewelry and appreciate you visiting my shop. All of the pieces were made personally by me. Since on line shopping can be tricky, I try to give an accurate description so you know exactly what you are buying. I will especially give you the size so you know whether to expect a large item or a delicate piece. You should have a pretty good idea what your item will look like before you open the package. Hopefully, the only surprise is it looks better than you had expected.

Shipping
Your purchase will be sent USPS parcel post with tracking. I usually ship out within a day or two of your purchase. You will receive a notification when the item has shipped.

Upgrades to USPS priority are available for domestic purchases. I only use USPS as I live in a rural community and this is the only carrier available to me.

I am happy to mail a gift for you. Just let me know the name and address as a comment on check out. I will also include a small note if you so desire.

I am big on recycling so your package will be in recycled materials when ever possible.

International buyers are responsible for whatever customs or charges made by their country.
Refunds and Exchanges
As a customer I want you to be happy. Please read item descriptions carefully so you know what you are purchasing. If an item like a bracelet for instance is too large or small please email me to work something out.

Please contact me if your item was damaged in shipping. I use lots of bubble wrap so this really shouldn't be an issue. You can return it and I will exchange it for another item or repair it and return it to you. Returning damaged items needs to happen within two weeks from purchase date.
