Announcement   Encaustic: Figures, portraits, landscapes. All wax layers, no collage. Also oil paintings, some watermedia and pastel. Small originals as well as larger works. Also cards printed from original work.

Encaustic is an ancient art form. A brush is dipped into a recipe of molten beeswax, resin, and color pigments. This molten wax is then painted onto a hard surface. This must be done quickly because the molten wax hardens as it cools. Each new layer of applied wax is then fused into the previous layer with a propane torch. All detail in my encaustic work comes from applied wax layers. Sometimes viewers think it is an oil painting covered over with wax but that is not the case. (Some artists do incorporate collage items into the wax.). It is time intensive to produce figurative and portrait works because of the accurate details required, since every time the propane torch is used the melted wax moves. Encaustic art is durable and requires no care other than gently polishing it with a soft cloth to restore the shine if it ever looks cloudy, and keeping it out of direct sun as you would do with all fine art.

10% of every sale will be donated to a selected Portland, Oregon animal rescue group.

( I placed my first items in the store in March 2010.)

Large card, small card, all yours cards are wonderful! And how like an Etsy person to enclose the price difference. You certainly didn't have to do that. Thank you so much. Annie Najarian

Payment
PayPal is my preferred method of payment and seems to be most popular with buyers, too. For fraud protection, if you pay with Paypal be sure that your shipping address matches your PayPal verified address BEFORE you place your order.
Shipping
FREE SHIPPING, HANDLING, and INSURANCE for smaller packages, sometimes including priority mail. It will depend on the size and shape of the art and how it fits into prepaid mailing boxes. Larger paintings are shipped UPS or Federal Express and SHIPPING, HANDLING, and INSURANCE will be charged at exact postal rates with nothing extra added in. Since all are fully insured you will want to keep the original packaging. On international shipping, contact me for details; the buyer is responsible for customs fees.
Refunds and Exchanges
I want you to be happy. If for some reason you are not happy with a purchase, please contact me immediately and I will do what I can to remedy the situation.
Additional policies and FAQs
I sometimes do custom orders. For example if a buyer tells me they would like a 6"x6" encaustic portrait of a woman with a red hat, or a 5"x7" encaustic landscape with large trees, a stream, and tones of blue/lavender/green, I can often do my impression of your request and send a photo and price when it is completed. Although I may not be able to paint it immediately I can provide an approximate time frame. Contact me at janetsartstudio [!at] gmail.com.
