About

Fine Leather Goods for the Rogue Soul

Jack of All Trades (jattreasury) was born in 2010 to bring creativity and quality to the alternative world of costuming. After attending many Renaissance & Pirate faires in Southern California, we found that there was a whole culture of people who felt and believed as we did, that sometimes it is necessary and wonderful to escape for a time and delve into a world of beauty and characters of yesteryear.

It all began with a Jack Sparrow costume...

In the spring of '06 I married the love of my life, and that summer we ventured out into Southern California finding wonderful, silly, and super cheap things to do. We'd spend hours in Michael's finding paints and accessories for projects that we could do around our 1 bedroom apartment, and would work on them together on the weekends. One Friday afternoon while at Disneyland we came upon a Jack Sparrow fabric hat with fake dreads sewn into it. An idea hit us both at the same time... I should make a Jack Sparrow costume for Halloween. We thought it'd be pretty inexpensive, so that weekend I borrowed my mom's sewing machine and started teaching myself how to sew. Due to trial and error, that costume was anything BUT inexpensive... however not only was it an awesome feeling to wear something you made from nothing and to receive recognition for it, but it also opened our eyes to a whole new world that at the time we couldn't have imagined would take us to the places we have been.

Jack of All Trades was budding that summer, although we didn't know it. For the next 3 1/2 years I made other costumes, continued to perfect the Jack Sparrow one, and met amazing people with the same passions as me, many of whom would become my best friends!

In early 2010 I made myself some leather belts and baldrics for the Jack Sparrow costume, then started receiving inquiries from the online communities about how much they would cost... the fact that people actually wanted to spend money on my creations was a new and inspiring feeling that I had not ever experienced. The excitement of receiving one's first sale cannot be exaggerated... it's a pretty great feeling! I created new products and people were buying them, so my wife and I decided to take the leap and become entrepreneurs, something we had always talked about and longed to do but never before had the opportunity.

It's been a continuous learning process, this owning a business thing. From the materials to the finances, there have been both challenges and rewards that have pushed us in directions we may have otherwise never ventured to go.
