Once upon a pot...
After taking an eight year break from working with clay, my venture back to ceramics began in January 2015 when I signed myself up for a winter class in West Philadelphia. After just a few hours of my hands in the dirt, I was hooked once again. I quickly began spending most of my free time in the studio, experimenting and honing in on my craft, creating tiny and fun bowls, vases and cups. Soon enough, I had shelves full of my finished work. With little room left in my small apartment and the encouragement of friends and peers, I created Jayne Ellen Pots to share my functional art with a wider audience.
Each piece is handmade by me in a local studio. Most pieces are made from porcelain and contain hand painted details inspired by geometric shapes and organic waves. As an avid reader, writer, and educator, I'm inspired by the art of storytelling as well as the whimsical and colorful illustrations of children's books that often influence the designs of my pottery.
