weaving, teaching, and promoting yarn mandalas

We have apprenticed with Jay Mohler who has honed the craft of weaving with yarn and dowels to a highly regarded art form.

Our vision is to give this art form visibility in the community where we live in Asheville, North Carolina and around the world. Our goal is to keep Jay's work alive by continuing to create his most popular pieces for those who would love to have their own as well as expressing our own individual creativity.

Our work is currently for sale on Etsy and in shops around Asheville, North Carolina.

We each have our own style and unique voice in this work. We are committed to the highest quality work and guarantee it 100%. We work meticulously to create art that will last a lifetime.

About Founder, Jay Mohler:

Jay was fortunate to be a part of the 1970's great popularity of this folk art in our American Southwest, when he lived in New Mexico, and sold a great many 8 sided Ojos de Dios to tourist shops and art galleries. The craze ended, and he moved on to sign painting for twenty years, but in 1999 he once again took up weaving yarn mandalas, and had a very satisfying time selling online. He has also taught and inspired many others to start weaving, through both facebook and the etsy shop.

  • Jay Mohler

    Weaver, Founder

1960's idealist, art student, dropout and wandering hippie, settled into New Mexico and weaving mandalas in the 1970's. I returned to the art in 1999 after a break of 20 years to paint signs and raise a family that produced 4 boys, now all grown up.

  • Samantha (Sami) Herbert

    Owner, Weaver

Sami has traveled all over the world collecting fiber and transforming it into hand crafted art. Her favorite thing is to watch the mandala grow, like oneself, into something complex and vibrant.

  • Elizabeth Tingley

    Owner, Weaver

Elizabeth Tingley is a native of Athens, Georgia. She has been working with fiber arts (knitting, crocheting, sewing, and tatting) for over 15 years. Recently returned from teaching in China, she now lives with her husband and son in Asheville.

  • Inga Savage

    Owner, Weaver

Inga is in love with fiber arts. As an apprentice with Jay Mohler her love for weaving with intention grew. She enjoys creating intricate woven designs like Tibetan, Celtic knots and Fairytale mandalas. She loves to delight herself with new designs!

We are very earth conscious and strive to re-use packaging material where we can and/or use a minimal amount of packaging. Every box is custom made to fit your order. International orders have been held by customs for as much as 2 months. If you have special considerations for shipping to your location, please let us know. International orders may be subject to duties or tariffs. These will be collected by the destination country's customs office and payment will be the responsibility of the customer. Refused shipments will be treated as an abandoned order and credits will not be issued.
Additional policies and FAQs
No two mandalas we make are ever exactly alike, and a custom order based on a previously sold ojo will be inspired by that previous ojo, but not an exact copy. Any suggestions for changes or customization are welcome. Feel free to look through ojos that we have sold in the past for examples, as well as the ojos we list as custom orders.
