Announcement   This is the place to purchase original and different rustic style polymer clay jewelry and art beads by Jon at JonBurgessDesign.
My work is strongly influenced by patterns and forms found in nature, organic or mineral, at macro and micro level. I like to use natural textures and patterns and also computer generated patterns and images based on the same mathematics as that found in nature.
I love using polymer clay for it's ability to resemble or echo all kinds of natural materials while still being malleable, (until baked or fired, as with clay) allowing unusual forms to emerge, creative trains of thought to be followed, and textures and surface treatments to be applied at will. It's a fascinating medium.

About

My rustic style polymer clay jewelry and art beads, and how they came about. . .

After discovering Polymer Clay and what others have achieved with it I realised it was a medium I could really get interested in. Beads were a kind of offshoot of my interest in the medium, but as beads were a huge part of the work polymer clay artists produce, I couldn't help but get interested. Now I have discovered the depth of history beads possess as important objects in human culture through the ages I have become fascinated by them as a discipline too. Hence my rustic polymer clay jewelry and art beads. . .

The medium of polymer clay begs experimentation. You can do so many different things with it. It is a kind of chameleon of a medium. It is so versatile and elastic in it's nature that it is sometimes hard to define what exactly it is of itself. I find that, though a lot of the big discoveries seem to have been made in what is a very new medium, the creative mind always finds things that need to be tried.
Rest assured the results of my experiments will be apparent in my rustic style polymer clay jewelry and art beads.

I have managed, over the past months, to utilise my long time obsession with digital imagery in my bead making. I have found ways of transferring printed images onto raw polymer clay, and also a way of using my images to make texture sheets and stamps. This opens up a whole slew of new possibilities which I am intent on exploring and exploiting. I have discovered all sorts of surface treatments also, which I have been recently using to 'age' my work so it takes on a kind of faux ancient patina. The combination of computer generated images and the look and feel of an ancient artifact is such a wonderful contradiction. The fact that it 'works' so well is a source of much pleasure to me ;-)
I am starting to make simple necklaces and ear rings using my beads, as it seems to be the logical conclusion of my journey into polymer clay and it's possibilities.
I find the process fascinating and enjoyable. It's enriching to learn new skills and find a different area in which to test my creative abilities. Especially when people respond well to my work, which, by and large, they have.

I have a new shop at jbdrusticorganic.indiemade.com - I'm an artist working in several fields who has recently discovered polymer clay. My digital work explores organic patterns and the maths that produces them. Polymer clay is an extension of this.
