About

Jean's Clay Studio

Enhancing Your Daily Rituals

Drawing and playing in the mud have been two of my favorite activities since I was a child, and when the visiting potter came to my high school, I decided on my career right then and there!

I began drawing and carving onto my pieces a few years into my life as a potter and have never stopped. My designs have always been inspired by the vibrant and active world around me and have evolved to include everyday household objects and popular iconography. I strive to create imagery that can be visually beautiful, and at times, somewhat playful. To view a 2 minute video of my carving technique, copy and past this url into your browser: https://vimeo.com/61637642

The functional aspect of pottery is extremely important to my work. I want to make objects that are durable, of high quality, and used everyday with ease. I choose to work with stoneware for this purpose, and keep my forms and shapes smooth and simple to showcase the graphic designs I create.

All of my pieces are made exclusively on the potter's wheel, hand drawn and painted. No molds, forms, stencils, stamps or decals are used. I feel this adds an amazing amount of energy and spirit to each piece along with a distinctive and unique identity for the object and its owner!

Thanks for your interest in my work and I hope you will enjoy visiting Jean's Clay Studio on Etsy!

Shipping
I will ship your order within three (business) days of payment. Most packages will be shipped through the U.S. Postal Service Priority mail (2-3 days). Larger packages might need to ship via UPS. If you purchase multiple items, Esty has a challenge calculating the proper shipping amount. If you are overcharged, I can easily refund your shipping overages. Please contact me with any shipping questions.

Pottery needs to be shipped with care and much time and effort goes into packing the items properly. I do not charge for my time, just the straight shipping costs plus $3 to cover the box and shipping materials. All items are insured. If you have a different shipping preference, please let me know.

I wrap all items in bubble wrap and pack in soy peanuts. Please consider reusing or recycling the packing material that your items were shipped in.

It is very rare, but please contact me if your item arrives broken. Save the broken item along with ALL packaging. In order to file an insurance claim, items and packaging need to be taken to the shipper.
Additional policies and FAQs
Clay is a wonderful material to work with. It has it's own life and energy. All of my handmade pottery has a unique character and feel of its own. No two pieces are alike. There are variations in decorating and firing which I feel give life to each piece. Since each piece is handmade and individually carved, please understand that there will be slight differences from item to item with respect to pattern, size, shape, color and glaze. All pieces are lead-free, dishwasher and microwave safe. Oven use is not recommended.
