Handcrafted Fine Jewelry

Honing the craft to express the beauty of subtlety.

Mastering the understated statement is the goal of Jen Leddy Studios' design. Jewelry inspired by minimalism and delicacy in its modern form but that pays homage to its inception in history and vintage aesthetics through old-world, traditional techniques. Jen, a true Libran at heart constantly striving for balance, utilizes asymmetrical balance to create a subtle play that is eye-catching without being distracting. That balance appears in composition, texture, and color. Simplicity in design allows for the jewelry to be timeless, speaking to multiple generations.

Jewelry has purpose; often different for everyone. But what reigns true across the board is we adorn ourselves with jewelry for an important personal reason: expression. It could be for outwardly sharing something or inwardly cherishing something. Either way it is an expression of personality. Jen loves to create pieces that allow YOU to express your reason.

Design and style are the obvious face of a jewelry business, but the practice behind it is the most impacting. How it is created and its footprint on the world is absolutely key. Jen Leddy Studios is entirely hand fabricated using traditional goldsmithing techniques from recycled precious metals. All gemstones are natural and ethically sourced (mine-to-market when possible), and all diamonds are conflict-free, recycled, or post-consumer. Building relationships with ethically empowered vendors and suppliers to support sustainable practices is paramount.

Jen is dedicated to excellence in craftsmanship. Each and every piece is created from scratch beginning with sheet, scrap, and wire, then transformed through melting, forging, forming, soldering, sanding, polishing, and setting. Each piece receives individual attention and care, therefore beautifully unique, and often one-of-a-kind.

Recycled Metal:
Jen Leddy Studios jewelry is made from recycled metals! All metal scraps (even metal shavings and dust) are also re-used and recycled or refined through a established green refiner. Whenever possible clasps and chains made from recycled metals are sourced as well.

14k Gold-Filled:
What is gold-filled? It is solid layer of 14k gold bonded to the surface of base metal. With the exception of some edges, 14k gold is what you see and what touching your skin, which means that is tarnish resistant. The gold represents 1/20th of the total weight of the material. It is a great economical option for the wonderful warm color of gold and is a longer lasting and more durable alternative than gold-plated and vermeil.

Oxidized Sterling Silver: Oxidization is a surface treatment that leaves sterling silver black (in essence, intentionally taking silver to it's fully tarnished state). It can be seen as in Jen Leddy Studios jewelry as polished, brushed back to look antiqued, or strategically placed in crevices to create amazing contrast. In whichever application, oxidized sterling silver naturally wears slightly over time, leaving highlights on raised surfaces while recessed areas remain black. It depends on the intensity of the use by the wearer and contact with other objects how quickly or drastically this happens. This occurs the most with a fully polished and completely black finish. Often customers enjoy the look of the slightly worn oxidation, giving it a raw and antiqued look. But fear not! This is all normal and it can always be re-oxidized for that black-black look, and I do that free of charge, for the lifetime of the piece (just pay return shipping).

Care and Cleaning:
Jewelry is delicate by nature, so please be gentle and care for your jewelry properly. Storage is of utmost importantance because metal does not like moisture. You may use plastic baggies, anti-tarnish bags or jewelry boxes, and/or routine cleaning and upkeep to ensure your jewelry remains beautiful and like-new! Try not to bathe, swim, exercise, spray perfume on, or sleep in your jewelry.

Bright and oxidized sterling silver, 14k gold-filled, or 14k gold may be cleaned with warm water and dish soap (ie. Dawn). You can rub the pieces gently with your fingers, in your palm, or with a soft CLEAN toothbrush, or put several drops of soap into bowl with warm water and let soak. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry (completely dry!). You are welcome to use jewelry polishing cloths on polished pieces only. Do NOT use polishing cloths on matte, textured, or oxidized pieces because they will remove the unique finish that was created.

For greatly tarnished and soiled bright sterling silver (non-oxidized), prepare a heat resistant bowl with aluminum foil. Place jewelry in and sprinkle a thin coat of baking soda to cover pieces. Pour hot (not quite boiling) water into bowl, just enough to submerge the jewelry. Agitate gently for a minute or two and let soak. Rinse with warm water and dish soap (Dawn), pat completely dry, and store. If still not bright and shiny, you may dime-sized portion of baking in your palm with a couple drops of water to create a liquidy paste, and gently rub onto jewelry. Rinse and follow previous finalizing instructions.

Make sure you use your drain catch whenever cleaning your jewelry so you don’t loose your it in the pipes!
