Note from shop owner My Dear Buttonneers,

My shop is going to be on vacation for an extended time - probably until Jan 2019. My retired husband and I are finally going to do some of the traveling and visiting family that we have put off for so long, and it makes the most sense to keep things closed instead of shutting down/reopening/shutting down over the next few months.

If you have an item underway with me now, it will of course be finished. I will also be reachable through the convo system should you have any questions.
Thanks so very much for your understanding. I look forward to seeing you again in 2019!

About

Designing custom buttons, cufflinks and jewelry for you

My shop started after witnessing more than one customers in a yarn store buying skeins and skeins of glorious cashmere to knit a sweater - at great cost. Added to that was my trip to the ‘very best’ button store in Dallas, where the proprietor kept on steering me to plastic buttons in the exact shade of my yarn. I wanted something more, something with a soul to it - just like the garment I had painstakingly knit. I had travelled to the very end of the Isle of Skye to get that yarn....and it deserved more than a green plastic button.

From buttons, I progressed to other round flat objects ;). Cufflinks, medallions, and ever onwards onto more and more adventure and fun in metal work.

I make my pieces from precious metal clay. This is an amazing material which molds like clay, but upon firing at really high heat (up to 1750 F for some varieties!) fuses into solid objects of silver, bronze, copper or steel. This enables me to make varied textures and sizes, add monograms, design on the fly...there is no need for a wax model and casting. It is a great way to create a single piece, or a small production run. In addition, I can create or adapt art and make a photopolymer stamp which is then used to imprint the wet clay. Custom designs become doable at a competitive cost this way.

I am the whole shebang. I design, make my items, photograph them, maintain my shop, prepare items for shipping - all of it. My sweet husband is my shipping department though, as he drops off my packages at the post office on his way into work every day.

More things about me:

Online class:
I teach an online course in Beginning PMC silver clay at Craftsy.com. They flew me to Denver for a week, and we filmed a dozen half hour lessons. I love the Craftsy platform - it’s not free, but it’s very well priced and worth every penny. Once you purchase a class you have unlimited access - no expiration date. I check in most every day and answer questions that students have posted. I have thousands of students, and am so happy that I can help them discover the magic squishy stuff that is metal clay!

You can find the class at https://www.craftsy.com/jewelry/classes/torch-fired-precious-metal-clay/35610

News Article:
The Dallas Morning News ran a feature about me in their Sunday Arts Section:

I do a lot of custom work - I’m having a great time doing coats of arms and family crests. My favorite one so far has two bunnies rampant. Who even knew bunnies COULD be rampant?

It's projects like that which make it fun to get up in the morning. I have the best job in the world...I get to make beautiful things that make people happy. Let me make something to make you happy, too.

When one of my customers needs a bulk order of an item, it is sometimes possible to have it sent out to be cast from a model I make. Usually it's best for over 2 dozen pieces or so, and requires a 10 to 12 weeks lead time. Once the pieces are sent to me I patinate, polish, and seal them, if needed.

Welcome to Jennybuttons!

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy Gift Cards and Etsy Credits
Returns and exchanges
I will of course accept returns on in stock items, but please choose carefully and thoughtfully. Since all my pieces are one of a kind - when they are not in the shop they are being missed by other Etsy shoppers. I would appreciate being notified within five days of your intent to return, and receive the item back within two weeks after your receipt of it.
Payment
I accept Paypal for payment, and credit cards through the Etsu Checkout system.
Sales within Texas are charged 8.25% sales tax.
Shipping
I ship worldwide. Generally items are sent USPS First Class or Priority with insurance to the US, Australia, Canada, and European Union. To other countries I ship flat rate Priority Mail International envelope. If you need Express delivery, please convo me and I will do my best to accommodate you; you will receive a Paypal invoice for the additional postage.

I do my best to calculate accurate costs, but it can be hard. Please know that my policy is to adjust downwards the shipping cost when I can. "Additional items" sometimes require their own boxes, or are heavy, which can push costs up. I will do my best to be fair to you.

For some international deliveries I may discuss best shipping practices before shipping, and reserve the right to require insurance and/or a signature in certain cases if I think it safest. Also, please be aware of your country's custom regulations, as in some instances you may be responsible for duty charges. I mark packages accurately as to their contents and value.

I will send to your Etsy account address unless I get a convo at the time of purchase giving me other instructions.
Additional policies and FAQs
I welcome custom orders! I do quite a bit of custom work, and have found it to be a lot of fun. If you see something that is almost but not quite what you need, contact me. Or if you just think of something you want and looking at my work makes you think I can make it, contact me about that too! Those are usually the best ; )
