A tiny piece of art. Not many bead artists are willing or able to put this kind of effort into a single bead, but the results speak for themselves; this bead is not only gorgeous and sumptuous, it is completely unique. Thanks!
A Lily of the Valley with a passion for fashion
Jenny Ekberg is a neuroscientist who has always feel that the creativity and passion to make beautiful things with her hands is inside her, wanting to burst out. Her Grandmother Sonja Hahn-Ekberg was a world-renown textile artist and she is to this date Jenny's greatest source of inspiration. Jenny is completely self-taught and is constantly challenging herself to learn new techniques and loves reading Vogue on her long bus ride to work to keep up with the latest fashion. She has built a rather impressive studio in her garage and constantly adds new tools to her collection.
Jenny now masters metal clay, fold forming, electroplating and many other techniques. Her latest obsession has been to electroplate intricate Victorian vintage lace, and to learn the ancient Japanese Mokume gane ("woodgrain") mixed metal technique. Recently, she has gone back to basic and made cute, summery macrame bracelets that people with a small budget can afford.
Jenny is always noticing beauty, in simple everyday things such as the quirky shops in Elizabeth Arcade during her daily walk through the city, the pretty fairy lights in her garden, thick morning fog and the neighbor's tree with those amazing orange flowers. Whilst being inspired by nature, Jenny is a city person and a night person who would choose to live in the center of Manhattan if she could.
So, where does the shop name come from? Well, Jenny has now lived in Brisbane, Australia for more than 10 years; for many of those she lived on the outskirts of the Valley, the inner hub of artistic inspiration and colourful nightlife in this town. Jenny knows The Valley like her own pocket; she has walked every laneway and drank from every waterhole in this cultural melting pot. But Jenny grew up in Sweden, surrounded by forests in which finding a field of true Lilies of the Valley in a gully during spring is a small wonder, encapsulating you in the most wondrous smell. To this date, they remain Jenny's favourite flowers.
