Finally finding my Groove

I knew there was something out there that I was meant to do creatively and I stumbled around for years trying to find that one thing that would stick. I loved trying out new arts and crafts but nothing would keep my interest for long.

It was 1985 when I made my first set of ceramic beads and they were awesome if a bit rustic but it was the end of the semester and I had other arts to explore so I soon left ceramics behind but alway felt the tug of playing in the mud even while trying out my many other arts.

I kept those beads I made many years ago and I would come across them over the years and think back to my time in ceramics fondly.

After twenty- two years I decided I am going to take ceramics again and I am going to make beads! I enrolled in our local community college in ceramic handbuilding class and I told my instructor my plan. He thought I was crazy but soon became a big supporter and he turned me on to raku for my beads. I also learned about salt firing and using mason stains.

I scoured the internet reading blogs and guides. I found the Beads of clay blog which had many guides and information. Wet canvas had a forum which when I bought me tiny kiln they helped me with setting up at home.

I have learned so much and still have so much to learn. The world of ceramics is vast and so interesting I am sure I have finally found my niche in it. I became a member of "Beads of clay" last November and it has opened up so many doors for me. I am meeting and making friends with ceramic bead artists from all over the world, some who I am still a bit star struck by.

Now if I can just get the hang of the whole social media part of all this! I am struggling with my blog and keeping up with the new ways to get your shop known.

It is hard wearing so many different hats to keep your shop up and out there. Thank goodness for the support of friends and family especially my patient husband that I get to do this.
