Sharing is Caring

....Jerseys Freshest...Well, I will say this--the name doesn't have much to do with cards, other than the fact that they are made in New Jersey, and I think they are rather fresh :)

It's a Jersey pride thing I suppose...Jersey Birds all have this insane amount of pride to cover up our love-hate relationship with the state. So, I guess the name comes from my personal self, as do my cards.

The shop itself was born out of a need to create. I am a trained painter, but really had no room or time to make huge paintings that would just sit or hang in my home. I am a mother before anything, and to abandon a huge piece for those duties was frustrating and heartbreaking. NOT creating at all was even worse. So, I began an archeological dig through all of my art supplies. I came across my bookmaking supplies, and papers. I looked through some tiny books I had made, along with some other paper creations, while thinking long and hard about how I could share my art with other people. Cards were really the most obvious answer for me. They are MEANT to be shared :) And then I thought of my daughter and her love of receiving mail...and my disdain for receiving bills... I thought how nice it would be to create art, for people send to others, to bring some life back into those monotonous mailboxes filled with junk mail and bills.

There really is something to be said for receiving a handwritten note in the mail. For me, email doesn't cut it. To see the design, to feel the paper, to see the person's handwriting makes the moment and the message so much more personal and meaningful. It's just like holding a real book in your hand as compared to holding a Kindle....I refuse to own one of those. I will not allow myself to be deprived of the tactile aspects of holding a real book.

As for my designs, I strive for several things, not always at the same time. I enjoy blending the idea of simplicity with detail and complexity. The use of a single object makes the design seem simplistic, but the contour of the chosen object may be more complex. For example, antlers are like branches, with smaller parts stemming from the main form.
I also look for ways to make a card more interactive--My origami kit cards are a perfect example of this. I feel that when someone can interact with what they are holding, it transforms the item into something more personal by establishing a tactile connection.

From 2012-2014, all of my cards were hand cut. After much thought, in August of 2014, I decided to begin the process of having all of my cards laser cut. I carefully selected a small company, Foxy Design LTD to handle the laser cutting for me. This has allowed me to lower the prices of my cards, reaching a broader audience. It has also saved my hands from arthritis. As of now only my Christmas and Hanukkah cards are laser cut, but I will be gradually releasing all of my designs as laser cut products. These changes will be reflected in my listings and prices as I switch them.

So there it is. My shop's story and ideas that continue to drive me to create

Oh, and on a more sustainable note....I recycle my scraps..First they take a trip through a blender, then they are thrown into a large basin, watered down some more, scooped up onto a screen (aka: mold and deckle), pressed out onto felt, and left to air dry outside. I use the new paper to write thank you notes (unless I'm out, then I use the scraps). I also collect packing materials (bubble wrap) from packages I receive so I can reuse it to package my goods for shipment; this helps reduce plastic waste in our environment.

Welcome to my etsy shop. I have a love for many crafts, specifically paper. The design possibilities are endless and enjoy constructing challenging designs that involve multiple prints, design elements, and textures. I am also a painter, and often incorporate original drawings and watercolors into the cards. By incorporating little works of art, I transform a card into a piece that could even be framed and used as home decor.

I hope you enjoy my handmade cards as much as I enjoy making them. All of my cards are created using archival materials. Each card or card set are packaged in resealable bags or boxes. The card sets also come with a paper band with my logo on it that holds the cards and envelopes together in one neat little set. I add new cards often, so be sure to come back and pay Jersey's Freshest a visit because you never know when a card will be born that you just have to share :)

**If you see an individual card you like in a set, contact me via conversation and I can most likely make you a one-off of the card, or something nearly the same, which you can preview before you make the purchase.

**If you would like multiples of a single card, or more than one card set, let me know. I can make more of most of my listings. Just remember that handmade does not mean machine reproductions, so each card design may vary SLIGHTLY. (this applies ESPECIALLY to handwritten font).

**DISCOUNT POLICIES: I offer 10% off of 10-19 of the SAME listing, and 20% off of 20+ of the SAME listing (excluding holiday cards). These discounts CANNOT be combined with any other sale.

**Shipping of Large, "made to order" orders will vary. As soon as I have the info from you regarding quantity, I will tell you when your item will ship and post the number of items needed to fill your order.**

**WHOLESALE POLICIES: most of my cards are available for wholesale. I require a minimum purchase of $250. The order MUST be paid, in full, before work begins. If you are interested in purchasing my work, please contact me for pricing. Once you are ready to place your order, send me an email with the following information:

-Listing titles
-color/text choices for each listing (where applicable)
-quantity of each listing (at least 10 of each is required)

I will send you an email letting you know that a listing has been made, and the lead time on the products (how long until your order will be ready to ship).

The listing will include the total, wholesale cost and estimated shipping charges. If shipping is less, I will refund you the overages; if it's more....the extra is on me.

I DO NOT PROVIDE FREE SAMPLES: if you are interested, but unsure, you may purchase the item at full price. If you decide not to buy the item wholesale, you may return the item, for a refund (this DOES NOT include shipping cost).

If you would like another address to be used, please convo me with the address you would like me to ship to.

All items typically ship within 1-3 business days after purchase. Seasons that are big for card buying get pretty hectic; I have shipping time set for 3-5 days during these times, but the cards may still ship sooner.

**I offer expedited shipping, at additional cost; if you need it fast, let me know**

Also, due to the way etsy calculates shipping charges, your order's total shipping fees may not cost as much. Once I ship the item(s), if shipping is less than what you paid, I will refund the difference via paypal.

**INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS: shipping prices are by weight, the more you buy, the less shipping is per card. If you are interested in buying bulk, contact me for a shipping quote.
