One of the best gifts I have ever given my daughter and her partner. They loved Jess' aesthetic and details. I found Jess very helpful and easy to work with via email. Enjoyed the process. Something lovely for a gift or for yourself.

About

Paper Love

I create custom portraits in close conversation with my clients, after reviewing their pictures we work together to create something special. I send as many pencil versions as it takes to capture the spirit they are after - I've drawn chickens, people sitting in apple trees or wearing wetsuits! It's such a fun process, and the best feeling when I carefully wrap it up to send it off to its owner... and I love the thought of my illustrations celebrating life and love sprinkled around the world!

My story behind the Etsy store goes something like this... My shop started quite awhile ago, I tinkered with some drawings and let it fade as I was busy with other projects, working in publishing full time, drawing at night, and being somewhat torn by the busy nature of full time work vs creative endeavours.

In 2012 I had my baby and a bit more mind space to follow my passion for illustrations. It has been fantastic - in between baby duties I have been flat out, drawing, creating and following my dreams (as cheesey as that sounds, it is true!). I resparked my Etsy store and have been busy doing something I love since, especially creating custom portraits of happy friends and families. I'm beginning to work on my first commissioned children's books, create card designs, prints and stationery.

Today I have a busy studio in Melbourne, Australia and work with clients all over the world. Every day I jump out of bed - doing my dream job, creating work that celebrates people and life in colour and ink on paper.

I love celebrating people's magical moments by creating original artwork, in collaboration with them. Every portrait is a one-off work, that reflects their stories and weaves in my own inspiration.

Payment
I must receive payment before commencing the work, then it would be great if you could email me directly (jessesmess@gmail.com) the full art direction for the work - e.g. reference photographs. if you want a banner, certain colours etc.
Shipping
Australian orders are sent express registered post.
International orders are sent general surface mail, due to the cost.
All orders are sent with a bend-proof cardboard backing, cellophane sleeve to protect the order. I am making all efforts to ensure it arrives perfect.
Please get in touch if you would like Express or special shipping. International Express is $25 and is only guaranteed to be five business days or under - posting from Australia.
Refunds and Exchanges
As this is such a customised process, and I work with you through all steps, there are no refunds once delivered. However, if the work is damaged in transit, I am happy to begin again (I take all precautions to avoid this!).
Additional policies and FAQs
This is a consultative process and I will ensure we make as many edits to the pencil version until perfect. After getting your approval on the pencil version, I will then go and colours the work with watercolours (and send no more scans - so 1. you get a surprise in the mail and 2. watercolours can't be amended easily anyway! :)).
All work is hand painted and drawn, and original artwork - so things like paint out of the lines, small paint dots on the paper etc - this is all part of the charm!

All work is created with Windsor and Newton inks on beautiful Arches 185 GSM paper.
