Old Wives' Tale is all about simple, natural, nourishing soaps & enriching bath time products.

I am one of the many fine soapmakers on Etsy. My name is Jessica and my business name is Old Wives' Tale. Welcome to my jungle :)

My soaps are *mostly* all-natural -- meaning, I may use a fragrance oil every once and awhile. If there are any man-made fragrance oils added, they will be listed. I aim to use essential oils versus fragrances when possible! However, we all love a really inticing fragrance oil every now and then.

I do not mass produce. Each batch of soap is only 10-12 bars large.

Handmade soap is SO much better for your skin than the detergents sold in stores. Google the difference!

As with all products, please mull over your body's tolerance of listed ingredients. Children and pregnant women should NOT use products with essential oils. Do not injest lip balm, bath salts, or any other product for that matter.

I design and wrap each package myself, so there may be small variations from time to time. I like to think of it as part of the artistic experience. You're likely to get something new and different with each order. You are invited to order custom packaging (color, ribbon type, etc) by just requesting such in your order comment. I am happy to see to it that these needs are fulfilled.

Please check me out -- you may see something you haven't before, or you may see something you have before with my own stylistic touch. That is what I love about Etsy – there are a million more “aisles” to explore and products to choose from than even the largest of mass merchants, and they could never touch the amount of ideas and variations to soap that we soap makers cook up.

Most listings only show one in stock. If you need more than one of an item, contact me on facebook or through etsy convo before purchase & I will adjust the quantity accordingly for you.

I can now take CUSTOM ORDERS. Please feel free to message me with a request. (Example: Bath bombs in the shape of roses make great passion party or bachelorette favors.) I will give you a quote and any follow up questions within 24 hours. We can even chat on Yahoo or Facebook about it. :)

Accepted payment methods

  • Pay with Visa
  • Pay with Master Card
  • Pay with American Express
  • Pay with Discover
  • Pay with PayPal
My preferred method of payment is Paypal or the barter system (Yes, I love trades!); however, if you are willing to wait 2 weeks for a check to clear, I accept checks as payment. I will also wait for a money order. After 3 days with no payment notification, I will relist the item(s) and the sale will be considered null and void. I hate payment policies, but they must be in place due to those nonpayers out there.

I strive to be flexible to your payment needs, so jot me a note if anything is needed on my behalf to make this process smoother for you!

Please note that any shipping overages less than $1.00 are to pay for packaging and Paypal and Etsy fees incurred during transaction.
I ship USPS by weight. Packing supplies come from the newspapers and magazines we read and paper bags we bring home our groceries in, and I also recycle packaging from my own supply boxes for more dainty orders. Most people have received their packages within 2-3 days. It can take the post office anywhere from 2-7.

I WILL ship internationally! Message me ahead of time so I may set up a unique listing just for you.
Refunds and Exchanges
If you have a negative experience, please let me know. I will do what I can to ensure you get the product and experience you were expecting.

I aim to please and perfect my methods.

Perfection is in the eye of the beholder; if you are not satisfied after purchase, I will work with you to see to it that you are.
