Announcement   Welcome to Jewelry By Vicki!
I strive for quality handmade jewelry, and mostly, one of a kind.
If you have any questions feel free to convo, and I will be glad to help!

I'm a retired preschool teacher. My husband is a two time stroke survivor, and I now, am also, a full time caregiver for him. We laugh every day even though some would say we don't have alot to laugh about. We find joy and happiness in every day, along with our little Welsh Corgi "Tucker". Life is truly, what you make of it!

I LOVE making jewelry and talking to my customers! I have been a wire wrapper for about 11 years, and you will find me in my studio, every chance I get, thinking up new and unique jewelry to share with you. I hope you enjoy your shopping experiance, and I appreciate your buisness!

If you have any problems or comments please let me know and give me the chance to fix it and give you an excellent customer service before you write a feedback.

History Of The Art:

Examples of wire and beaded jewelry made using wire wrapping techniques date back to thousands of years BC. The British Museum has samples of jewelry from the Sumerian Dynasty, found in the cemetery of Ur that contain spiraled wire components. This jewelry is dated at approximately 2000 BC. Other samples of jewelry from Ancient Rome show wire wrapped loops (one of the important techniques in making wire wrapped jewelry). This Roman jewelry is dated to approximately 2000 years ago. In the manufacture of this early jewelry the techniques for soldering did not exist. Later, as the technique for soldering developed, the wire wrapping approach continued because it was an economical and quick way to make jewelry components out of wire.

Currently, wire wrapping techniques are not frequently used for mass produced jewelry because of simple economics. Machines can cast jewelry components much faster and cheaper. Artisans or craftsmen are required to make jewelry by hand and in the current mass marketplace, machines are less expensive and perhaps more precise. At this time, using the wire wrapping approach to making jewelry is primarily employed by individual craftsmen and women.

About

All About Us!

I have always been involved in some kind of arts and crafts, and had owned my own porcelain doll business, where I taught classes and poured my own molds.
It was successful, but a divorce forced me into a smaller home, and one income, so I had to move on.
I remarried a wonderful man and he is the love of my life!

I started dabbling in jewelry, and found out I had a great love for wire wrapping.
I bought a few tapes and started selling a little jewelry, on the side.
I went to work full time for a daycare, (mind you I am 58 years old now) - I know, "Crazy", but none the less I liked it!
I had planned to stay there until I retired. I even went back to school to to get my Early Childhood Development Associate.

After 12 years of being a pre-school teacher, in the same place of business, "The doors" closed, they could not keep going with the economy crunch.
"I was devastated!"
Out of work at my age, and on unemployment for the first time in my life!
I walked around for days, pretty depressed.

My husband said: "Why don't you just draw your unemployment for awhile and try to get your jewelry going?"
"What?" I couldn't do that!
Well I decided, with some guilt, to do it.

I worked on a website for several weeks. I worked about, fourteen hours a day, got one built, and of course nothing really became of it.
Then I discovered Etsy! The rest is history!

I have two etsy shops. I love it, and they have been successful.
It did not come overnight, and it was not easy.
There were many, many, long hours, but it has been a dream come true.

Losing my job, has been a "Blessing In Disguise".
Little did I know that God works in mysterious ways. Even though i had been so devastated over the loss of my job, he was preparing me for what was to come.

In July 2010 my husband suffered 2 strokes, and a collapsed lung. I am now a full time caregiver to him.He is in a wheelchair now,and his left arm is completly parralized and he is learning to walk again. We work every day together with physical thereapy. We also have an awsome Welsh Corgi Named "Tucker" that brings us many laughs and licks!
We are happier than we have ever been, and we are blessed!
