Announcement   See my new painted silk scarves inspired by Cornwall!

I make both stock items ready to ship and custom orders just for you, in small numbers. For custom orders; please check out the different shop sections as there are a number of customisable items I already make. You will be able to tell as they have drop down menus on the listings for you to choose what they are made from. Or if you are just after a simple modification to something -a new style pocket, different materials- please contact me direct or using the "contact seller/ask a question" button on the relevant listing as I may be able to help. For custom orders please read the T&Cs under the policies tab of any listing- different rules apply to returns!

SHIPPING AND TIMING:
I am in the UK. Please check with me for urgent customised or made-to-order items from listings in the shop BEFORE ORDERING- I can confirm whether the item should arrive in time, as modifications take a little time and I often have a couple of jobs in the queue- it would be a shame not to get that item you so dearly need on time! Thanks.

Standard shipping from the UK to the US, Canada, Russia or Greenland takes about 2 weeks usually -but sometimes up to 4 weeks -that's AFTER making so please order custom items enough in advance to stand a chance of receiving them in time. EU/ most of non-EU Europe takes a bit less, other countries further from me a bit more time. Within the UK it takes 2-3 days usually. Shipping times vary and are not guaranteed, sorry, they're just an indication to guide you. I offer tracked/insured or courier services as shipping upgrades but these do cost extra. Shipping is Royal Mail 2nd class or standard UK Airmail without insurance and tracking unless stated otherwise in listings.

ALLERGIES:
My home is smoke-free and pet-free. Cottons and upcycled fabrics are prewashed in an ecologically friendly detergent, I use recycled or upcycled packaging wherever possible (for cost reasons too) and am trying to introduce more ethical, fairtrade and sustainable products. Jewellery is not hypoallergenic unless it says so- swaps to different fittings may be possible, please ask.

SILK PAINTED ITEMS
Silk painting has a large random element and so items cannot be 100% reproduced again- this does make them unique to you though! Custom hand painted and hand dyed silk items are wearable art and can have a long waiting time because I may need to develop the design or use special techniques at someone else's workspace- please read the most relevant listing carefully! It is worth the wait to have your own unique wearable art :-)

***GALLERIES AND WEB***
I have updated my website- you can see some photos of previous commissions including non-Etsy ones, and purchase some favourites direct at www.jezdesigns.co.uk
-plus I have an occasional blog at http://jezdesigns.webs.com/apps/blog/

Or just have a cup of tea, a nice slice of cake, and browse through my shop here. If you contact me I have lots of things I can offer, from hairpins to bespoke evening bags or items for historical costumes- just tell me what you're looking for.

I love the colour and fabric chosen for me by the maker and the pouch is great to use for my glasses. Thank you.

About

A natural evolution- affordable and sustainable textiles

I aim to make custom things for people at reasonable prices- it's so much nicer when something is made just-so, just for you. I got into Etsy and hand crafting because I started making things for myself and friends when I could never find what we wanted, when I needed it, at a reasonable price. Things have moved on but mostly towards the cheaper disposable fashion end of textiles, sadly!- so I aim to help show there's another way.

I've been training in sustainability the past few years and hope to make more of my range eco-friendly and/or ethical over time. I'm still learning the best ways to do this and developing new ideas. I really love organic, natural materials but also upcycling things in witty ways. I've also been painting and dyeing silk with the Essex Guild of Silk Painters, so you'll be seeing more of that too.

As you can see I really like rich colours and patterns from all sorts of cultures, and I have a real thing for Asian influences, mainly Indian, Chinese or Japanese. I work in luxurious (but affordable!) evening and embellished fabrics a lot, working on the dining table at home -or very soon, in my new workshop space!

I sometimes attend craft and design shows in East Anglia and London with my wares, or run classes on making useful objects with your fabric; keep an eye out for info here and on my own website www.jezdesigns.co.uk about when that happens.

Shop policies

I make custom items for people; I do also have stock of course as examples or because I had an inspiration, and so I can show you my designs. Items listed here as "ready to ship" already exist as stock -otherwise the listing tells you they are made to order/customiseable. (Made to order/custom both count as custom orders). Stock items I can dispatch within 1-3 days normally, items made to order will take more time, from 1 to 6 weeks so see the individual listings. I will let you know if I have a lot of orders what the timing is likely to be; so if your deadline is short please contact me first before ordering, to check I can deliver in time from the UK!

I try to make all my truly custom items unique in one way or another so that you know your item is special and no-one else will have the same; even the stock items will often vary in detail. I do not usually make wholesale amounts or large batches of identical items (say more than 5 or 10). If you want big batches of wholesale cheap items, try Etsy Wholesale; if you want thousands, possibly Etsy really isn't for you and you should consider working direct with a factory. Etsy is about one-offs, small batches and hand-makes mainly! Like many Etsy people I usually work elsewhere apart from making craft items so please bear this in mind, as it may be some hours before I can reply to you (plus I may be in a very different timezone of course!).

  • Accepts Etsy Gift Cards and Etsy Credits
Payment
I will accept Paypal funds; or pay via Etsy checkout. I can't take any US postal orders, sorry (PLEASE NOTE- I DO accept orders from the US; what I mean is I cannot accept the prepaid paper things called Postal Orders issued by US Post Offices, as payment. They are a bit like the old Traveller's Cheques and a few people do still want to use them, but they are too costly and awkward for small value orders, sorry). I can also accept debit and credit cards through Paypal and Etsy's own system. Both routes are safe, do not cost you any more (I pay the fees) and you do NOT need a Paypal account to use either! So if you need to use a credit card these are the ways for us to do business.

Orders from stock will be dispatched very soon after the payment comes in; custom and made to order items vary, please check the listing details. I will also keep you informed if you order is going to take more than a couple of days to be made.

For large value custom /unusual orders I normally ask for half of the payment up front as a deposit once we agree the details, and half on completion. Unless you use a standard listing with custom options, it's a small price or urgent, when I will ask for all up front to save time and hassle. On custom orders this first payment is also a commitment from you to buy. Accepting a custom listing written just for you will be taken as your agreement to the item's details and my T&Cs; please CHECK everything carefully including your decisions in our Etsy conversations and my shop policies before you pay for it! If you are not sure, please wait before ordering and ask me anything you still need to know. If you change your mind AFTER ordering and paying the first half as a deposit for a custom item, I reserve the right to keep the deposit if I have already spent time and materials on your project. If the work has not been started I may be able to offer a refund up to 100% minus any fees, but you need to tell me asap that things have changed. If on completion and after repeated contact attempts you do not pay the remainder for the item, I reserve the right to cancel the order in the system, and sell your item within Etsy. You may or may not receive a refund in this case depending on my costs and whether your item sells elsewhere. I will tell you & wait 30+ days before doing this. Please also read the refunds & returns policies.

So- if you change your mind on a custom order or suddenly find you can't buy the item please contact me asap to reduce the impact on any refund which could be due to you! These things do happen -we all have sudden emergencies, make genuine mistakes or get cashflow issues- so these policies are designed to be as fair as possible to both of us: but they do require you to tell me asap, so I can stop making the item before it costs us both money and time :-)
Shipping
Shipping looking a bit expensive? I may be on a different continent to you! Also if you are buying multiple items the Etsy shipping costs don't work so well when they add up (I can only have one cost per item and usually people order ones and twos- remember eBay has the same issue!) and the costs can mount up fast- but I can refund the excess/ do you a bulk rate. Please get in touch to ask, even before you buy, rather than giving up and/or getting cross and sending me angry messages. I'm here to help! ;-)

YOU the customer are responsible for paying any customs fees due on your item. Customs law varies a lot, is applied variably by officials (so I cannot anticipate this in my prices) and they will contact you rather than me for payment. I will give you on request any info I have but if you haven't picked tracked shipping I may not know anything, so please remember this. I will always put an accurate customs form on the package where needed declaring the contents and value.

I ship from the UK but as I do other jobs as well, I can't always get to the post every day; so if it is something urgent please contact me, to make sure I can get it to you on time! Prices for shipping in my shop are standard airmail unless you are in the UK, in which case they are 2nd class post. All are without tracking and insurance. UK post typically takes 2-3 working days, to Europe 3-7 working days and the US and elsewhere between 7 and 10 working days. These times can double when post is disrupted or very busy, especially the USA. International shipping is without tracking unless it says otherwise (valuable items over £50 will be tracked). Shipping costs are heavily driven by weight- so if you order 2 of something it costs nearly double to send it; sorry, there's not much I can do about this- but I do only charge for packaging shipping and associated fees, so there is no profiteering in these prices!

I can offer insured and tracked airmail (non courier so not faster) at extra cost to most places but prices depend on the destination so please ask me; or see listing upgrades for courier options. Basic tracking for many of my small parcels to the EU costs more (£7 approx) than the US which is further away (£6 approx)! This is due to a bizarre bit of VAT tax law, sorry. Other regions vary but are similar- please ask me for the correct fee.

Insured tracked and signed shipping upgrade is available for: European Union Zones:
Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Latvia ,Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Republic of Ireland, Spain and Sweden

Non European Union Zones:
Andorra, Azores, Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Corsica, Faroe Islands, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Madeira, Monaco and Switzerland

Rest of the World
Australia , Brazil, Canada, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, New Zealand and USA

This is a good idea for expensive non-urgent orders.

I will ship to anywhere that PayPal and airmail works; if you can't see your country contact me and I'll create the right shipping so you can order. Anywhere that isn't the UK or Europe (except Australia and New Zealand) will usually cost the same as the US for me to ship to; most of my listings have this as "Anywhere else" (which includes the USA if you can't see it). I'm happy to work with Paypal in Euros and Pounds Sterling as well as US dollars.
Refunds and Exchanges
If you are inside the EU and order from a standard listing (not custom) you will have up to 14 days from when you receive your item(s) to cancel your order and return the item for a refund. To get a full refund of the costs (not incl. shipping unless there is a problem with the item which is my fault) within a further 14 days you will need to a) tell me as soon as possible so I can help you and b) return the item to me at your shipping cost (or provide proof you have done so if it gets mislaid in the postal system- so make sure you get proof of posting!). This cost will vary a lot country to country -please ask your local post office for a price or contact me for help as I can't add estimates to listings since I don't know who will buy them from where.
Outside the EU I will normally be able to offer refunds ONLY if there is a manufacturing fault of mine or if you change your mind in specific cases as noted under the "payment" policy; or for shipping damage on arrival if you chose insured shipping.
I cannot offer a full refund on custom items to anyone anywhere if you just change your mind once you receive it - the item was made specifically for you and photos and other information will have been supplied to you throughout the making process, so that you knew what you were ordering and getting. I will have spent a considerable amount of time designing and making the item and have used up materials and money, plus no-one else is all that likely to want your item. So please be sure you want it before you order a custom item! This applies both to customiseable items made to order whose listings contain options (drop down menus) and to one-off items we agree the specification for by convo and listing. Please see the payment policy section for other types of custom cancellation and partial refunds.

Outside the EU- I will occasionally be able to offer an exchange or credit on an as-received undamaged, unused returned stock or made to order item if appropriate, but you do need to contact me first, supply an explanation and will need to pay to ship back to me the pristine, undamaged, UNWORN and UNUSED (please!) item, ideally in its original packaging, for resale. Earrings cannot be returned outside the EU, due to hygiene reasons.

All refunds will be issued only after the returned item reaches me.
Additional policies and FAQs
***********ETHICAL/ORGANIC & RECYCLED**********
I am starting to do a range of items using fairtrade, organic, upcycled or recycled raw materials. If you want to find out more please convo me to see what I can do and look for these special listings.

***********COPYING DESIGNS************************
Please don't ask me to copy other people's designs exactly or infringe copyright of other people's brands, logos, images etc. It's unethical and probably illegal in most cases. Not to mention often impossible! However like any Etsy maker you can show me examples of similar things to what you want when commissioning custom makes- "a bit like this but in another fabric to match my dress and with these other features" is a good way to communicate.

********************PRICES*****************
I set these realistically to reflect the work needed in an item, the materials and the fees I pay, and shipping costs reflect the charges I bear, the cost of packaging and time and fuel spent getting your stuff into the post. I am trying to make a living in the UK so I'm simply not as cheap as some other parts of the world. But you are buying my creativity and expertise too, remember. Shipping costs vary a lot too from country to country (the US is pretty cheap for international shipping for example) so please don't be shocked if it's not the same as where you live. And airmail is expensive! You are sending something fast round the planet in an aeroplane, which uses fuel...

These items are all my designs so rather than try and get another hard-pressed crafter to copy my item on the cheap, which is unethical, why not contact me to ask me, as I can often do simpler versions of many items or in less expensive fabrics which still look good! I may even be able to do you a deal on the price, if you order more than a few pieces. :-)

************WHOLESALE***************************
I am not a wholesaler; I do not typically make batches of more than 10 or 20 max. This also means I cannot offer enormous discounts on larger batches, because my prices are already set competitively. I may be able to offer 10% or so on 5 to 20 similar items which form a batch but this depends on the order details. Several non-similar items in an order is not a batch, please note, thankyou.

********TIME FOR CUSTOM ITEMS***************
Custom orders can take between a day and several weeks depending on what they are and how big my order-book is, so please be prepared to wait. The shipping and policies tab tells you the processing time for each item- which is the usual time BEFORE shipping, for making and packing. However they are done to your own exacting standards and requirements so are definitely the best of the best, often one of a kind, and worth the extra wait!
