This pillow is beautiful and the seller is especially helpful, kind and communicative. Be aware that the background fabric may vary in shade and darkness from the image. I'd suggest contacting the seller initially to share what hue you are seeking. Its a unique color and pattern which delights.

Inking a block.
Repeats are done with multiple motifs on a single block.
Printing ribbon by combining two blocks to make a new pattern.
My studio.

Hand carved, hand printed, hand sewn.

Henri Kuikens textiles are produced in my small studio in Observatory, Cape Town.

After drawing a design on paper, I transfer it to a linoleum block, and carve it out to make a stamp. Using waterbased silkscreen ink, I apply ink to the stamp block, place it on the fabric, and carefully press it down with a rolling pin. Over and over again to make a repeat pattern, often combining different blocks to make new patterns.

Experimenting with colours and placement to come up with new repeat patterns is an endless source of fascination!

Once printed, I cure the fabric to make it washable, and sew it up into cushion covers, bags, baskets, purses... whatever I can think of.
