Everytime I look at this painting it tells me another story. Dealing with the artist could not have been any easier. The painting came packed as if ready for a sea voyage, which I greatly appreciated.
Painting, drawing, and always observing
Like most artists, I've been drawing and sketching my whole life. I love museums, and I studied painting as a way of entering that world, of learning to really understand the language spoken on the museum walls.
I'm the typical native New Yorker, and spent most of the early 00's in countless classes at the legendary Art Students League of New York, following in the footsteps of all the great 20th century artists I so admire. In between classes, or when the model was on break, I was in the hallway with my cell phone and laptop, running my consulting business in the completely unrelated field of affordable housing development.
From the vantage point of my little house in the Berkshire hills of Massachusetts, I paint, draw, and teach In the summers, I paint on the lawns of Tanglewood, often trying to capture the concerts in progress. Since the birth of my daughter in 2011, I've rediscovered watercolors, and enjoy making new discoveries about the possibilities that lie in those quick-drying transparent washes of color.
Recently, our family is spending more time in my hometown of New York City, and I'm enjoying exploring some new cityscape themes. I hope to be posting more soon!
Around the web
An erstwhile Native New Yorker, I now make my home in the beautiful Berkshire mountains with my dear Thor Wickstrom (wickstromstudio on Etsy!) and our beautiful baby girl, Irene.
My work is entirely from life and from imagination. The paintings and drawings are originals, and I have also some giclee prints available. They are matted for standard size frames, and make attractive gifts.
My actual studio is also an exhibition space here in North Adams, Massachusetts. If you like my work, please visit the studio site: studio21south.blogspot.com, and check out my website at jfoxstudio.com.
If you see something on www.jfoxstudio.com that you're interested in and which isn't in my etsy shop, convo me on etsy, and if it's still available, i'll be happy to post it!
