A LIFE OF QUIET ADVENTURE
I've been a professional nature-based artist & designer since 2000, and a teacher of the same since 2010. In September 2012, I sold my house & most of my possessions, packed my art supplies in a minivan and bid adieu to my friends in Portland, Oregon to embark on a year-long west coast art-making adventure.

That was a while ago. Since the very beginning of that sabbatical, the Salish Sea habitats & inhabitants have captured my heart. Everyday out here I get to explore, live in and depict the forested coast nature that I've adored since my childhood in Northern California's Bay Area and a rural family farm farther north, where we harvested prunes and walnuts outside the town of Corning, the "Olive Capital of the World."

My current adventuring is undertaken away from the city centers where I've lived all my adult life, so that I can once again experience the slower cycles of nature in-depth. It's about as far away as I can get from my college years in New York City!

MY ARTWORK
No matter their form - drawings, paintings, photos, sculptures or crafted items - my highly detailed works are directly inspired by the bit of nature with which I'm currently obsessed, And my work is always a visual celebration of the small overlooked details & interconnections in all things.

In my mind, “people, plants and animals” or “art, craft and design” are not so different from one another. Everything and everyone are interconnected and similar — it's just a matter of each functioning with a different set of materials, and at varying speeds and scales.
