jillvz's Shop Announcement

I make functional pottery that invites touch, interaction and treasured every-day use. Clean lines, understated glaze colors and Japanese-inspired brush and stamp designs distinguish my work. All of my pieces fired to Cone 5 for high durability and are dishwasher-safe, microwave-safe and lead-free, ready for your everyday use. Find my work locally at the Pence Gallery, Cloud Forest Cafe, Mishka's Cafe, Redwood Barn Nursery and the Davis Food Coop.

My process:
To see my pottery making process up close, watch a 2 minute clip of me demonstrating how to make a wheel-thrown cup at: (yes, it really is as fun as it looks).

To learn more about my work, visit my website at, or my Jill Van Zanten Pottery facebook page, or read a recent profile of me in the Davis Food Coop Newsletter, at (pg 8).

I can usually ship within 24 hours of receiving an order, so you should receive your order in three days or less, no matter where in the U.S. you live. Pottery is heavy and requires extensive cushioning so shipping is not cheap! My shipping charges are based on averaged Priority Mail and Flat Rate costs to mail my ceramic pieces from California to the eastern half of the U.S. If I undercharge you for shipping I will cover the difference. If I overcharge you by more than $3 I will refund the difference to your account.

By far the cheapest shipping option is to save up, or buddy up with a friend, purchase multiple items at once and use Flat Rate.

You will receive tracking number and $50 insurance. I pack items with great care and have not yet had a case of an item breaking in transit, but in the event that it does happen, please photograph the broken item and packaging and send the photo to me within two days so that I can file a claim. You must keep the broken item and all the packing material and box until the claim is settled since you may need to show these to USPS.

Because of the hand-made nature of my work, each piece is unique and has its own character, though many of the pieces will work well together as sets. The photos and descriptions will give you a pretty good idea of what each piece looks like, but if you purchase a piece from me and find it is not exactly right for you, you are welcome to return it for a refund, minus shipping costs. (I am a small operation and am not able to absorb postal fees except in cases where the shipping error is mine.)

Sales tax:
California residents will need to add 8.5% sales tax, which Etsy will calculate for you and add to your shipping.

Local folks save shipping:
If you live in the Davis/Sacramento area, you are welcome to come by and pick up your purchases and save your shipping fees. You are automatically charged for shipping as you go through check-out, but I will refund your shipping fees through PayPal.

Special requests:
If you would like to order something not currently available in my shop, you might want to start by browsing the photos of "sold orders" (on the menu to your left, under Shop Info, below items for sale) to see the range of work I have made in the past. If "it" is not there, send me a description of what you have in mind and I will let you know if/when I can make it for you.
