Note from shop owner I am taking a break to explore the spookiest places where things go bump in the night. I will be relaunching my new store: Jim Coon’s Halloween Town later this year!

When I'm not sleeping I draw

Jim Coon is a graphic designer from Cortland NY. He was born (1967), raised, lives and will die( hopefully not before the year 2050) and be buried in Cortland. He has a cemetery plot.

It was a wedding gift.

Don't ask.

He hates snow so he is happy to stay inside and draw when the temperature in upstate New York dips below 30 degrees. Jim would like to one day retire to Disneyworld and live in the little room that Walt Disney lived in in Cinderella's Castle.

He doesn't want to work at Disney, he just wants to live there.

When he is not working his full time job at the print shop, he draws caricatures, comics, cartoons, sketch cards, pinups and anything else his warped little mind can come up with. He normally stays up until very late at night drawing while his wife and daughter sleep. This could explain the bags under his eyes and why he walks as if he were a zombie slogging through a London fog.

Jim travels to several different events during the year including the CNY Maplefest (April 6th and 7th 2019) & the Lafayette Applefest ( Oct. 12 & 13, 2019) among many others.

Jim also draws caricatures at private events. Corporate picnics, family reunions & kids birthday parties. His rate is $100.00 an hour with a minimum of 2 hours. He can draw up to 12 people ( that's 12 people NOT pictures) per hour so keep that in mind. Jim's contact info is at the bottom of this column so please contact him if you think he might be right for your function (Sorry, Jim does NOT do after prom parties).

His comic and cartoon work includes e-bay sketch cards, self published comics and pop culture prints. His work can be found in his Etsy shop so go there and buy something! Likes and favorites don't pay for his kid's braces!

Jim is the creator of the Ocotober Apothecary line of oddities and curiosities . Products include apothecary jars, greeting cards, Christmas cards and calendars. He sells these in his Etsy shop as well as the shows he travels to throughout the year.

Jim is also an actor and director working with the Acme Mystery Company in Syracuse, NY and the Center Players out of Homer NY.

In October, Jim gets his Halloween on as the director of the Chiller Haunted House (October 23, 24, 25, 2019) held at the Center for the Arts in Homer NY. In Cortland, Jim is known as "Mr. Halloween" and 2019 will mark the 37th year of operation for the "Scariest little haunt in Central New York". Look for more information as the nights turn cold and October draws near.

Jim decided in 2019 to start using this blog to promote all of his various projects, events and art so keep a look out for updates every week where Jim might be drawing caricatures or any of his weird and creepy new ideas.

Jim is an avid race fan, but he prefers local small track racing rather than NASCAR. He feels NASCAR is a bunch of four wheeled billboards going around and around for 12 hours on a Sunday afternoon. Jim is a loyal fan of the Oswego Speedway in Oswego NY. His Jim8ball moniker is derived from the most famous driver in track history, Jimmy Shampine.

Things Jim does not like include:

Flying (Only to Disneyworld. It's really the only reason to get on a plane)

Cruise Ships (If I want to puke I can stay home!)

Puking (hence no cruise ships)

Technology ( I hate that the phones are smarter than me!)

Other than that, Jim is a pretty laid back guy.

If you would like to hire Jim for an upcoming event or festival, or you would just like to reach out and say hi, his e-mail is jim8ball [!at] twcny.rr.com.

I never know what to write when I'm asked to write a bio. I'm a grumpy old curmudgeon who lives in upstate New York where it seems like it snows 8 months out of the year. I draw comics, caricatures and cartoons.
