I am a retired controls engineer. I have been making wood objects for the last 20 years. I started with a Shopsmith tool in 1990 as a hobby. Then I moved to dedicated tools. For many years I made furniture, tables, desks, entertainment centers, blanket chests, blanket stands, lap desks and boxes. I started selling furniture in 1999 when I was laid off and unemployed for almost two years. In 2002 I landed an engineering job. By this time I was technically out of date so I had to spend a lot of hours on my own bring me up to speed. This put a stop to my woodworking. I stayed employed until 2009, this year, when everything went to hell in a hand basket in Michigan. I decided to try my hand a woodworking again. After some experimenting with turning bowls and making boxes, I decided that that making toys suited me perfectly, hours of fun designing, machining and building toys. I sell at the Ann Arbor Artisans Market every Sunday and met some people there that were selling on Esty, which after some investigation I decided to try. The Library is a source of inspiration for many of the toys I make. I try to come up with a new toy every week. I will add to this site if I like it and I think it will sell.

All the dimensions give in my descriptions are approximate. These toys are all hand made one at a time so the dimensions may vary a little. I may use pine, cherry, maple, popular, birch and walnut in my toys. I will try and describe the type of wood contents of each toy but I may forget to put in a species. Many folks like to paint toys and there is nothing wrong with that. However painting a toy keeps it from reaching a Childs hands an extra day or two. Then, there is the concern about toxic finishes. All the toys I make have no finish. The exception is the monkey on a stick which I colored the monkeys body with colored pencils. If you wish to color the toy yourself I would check the finish out for toxicity before applying.
