About

Jinny Ngui Design - making things for the home

Hi! I'm Jinny Ngui (pronounced nu-wee), a London based product designer.

I graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2005 with a degree in Ceramic Design. The practical nature of the course opened my eyes to the world of manufacturing and craftsmanship. The understanding of processes and techniques is an important element to my design practice. Specialising in ceramic design has allowed me to explore form, surface and texture, which has been the main focus of my ceramic work. I also look at the relationship between utility and decoration.

I'm drawn to patterns, bold graphics and colour. Inspiration is found primarily in London, from the wealth of galleries and museums, architecture, local markets, nature and the rich mix of cultures. My own Chinese heritage has been an increasing influence on my work.

As much as I love designing, I really started to miss being hands on and making, so I bought myself a kiln and started making again. I buy lovely bone china shapes from a supplier in Stoke-on-Trent and use a mixture of my own graphics and stock prints to decorate. Despite not being on an industrial scale I really enjoy the making process and creating things for the home for people to use and love.

Frequently asked questions
Care instructions

All ceramic items are safe to use in the microwave.

It is best to wash by hand but not with anything abrasive that could scratch the surface. To avoid tea or coffee stains rinse out your mug/cup with warm water immediately after use.

Patterns are fully fired into the glaze, so you can put your items into the dishwasher (I do with mine), but please do so with care - make sure you stack your dishwasher so items are not touching each other to avoid scratches and potential damage and use the gentlest washing cycle.

Gift wrapping and packaging

Every item will be carefully wrapped in tissue paper and bubble wrap before being packed securely.

I try to recycle where possible.

Shipping

I send my orders by Royal Mail Signed For™ 2nd Class, which takes approximately two to three working days for delivery and requires a signature on delivery.

For international shipping please get in touch.
