Slow stitched, nostalgic textile art made from repurposed and vintage fabrics, papers and found objects. Cheerful machine stitched occasion cards.

I trained in Textiles and Surface Design at CCAD, Hartlepool before I graduated and became a Textiles teacher by day and freelance embroidery designer by night (I was quite partial to a bit of midnight sewing in my twenties!). I’ve done a lot of different commissions, designs and fine art sort of textile work along the way, including working for Quarto books for a little while as a contributing artist (I’d love to give stitched illustrations another bash some day).

A few years ago I took voluntary redundancy from teaching and started out this little venture, which has slowly built up into something that I now call a business and take a bit more seriously compared to when I started out! After leaving work I was faced with the question, “what is it that I actually do?” I’d spent years working on trend led designs, specific commissions and teaching students a really broad spectrum of textiles techniques...so where was my creative style in all of this? I’m still finding my feet but in this little shop you will find the product or result of someone who is doing what they love; combining textile art and surface design experience, collecting fabrics, vintage paper ephemera and buttons...always a lot of buttons...and postage stamps...tons of those too...and creating little snippets of prettiness along the way.

Oh! And on this journey of mine, a few friends asked me if I could make their wedding invites, or make some printed signs and this too has snowballed! You can now find some of my paper goods at my other Etsy shop: PaperlovebyJessicaK ❤️
