New Takes on Reality

Photography is the current stop on my creative journey. It's a place I've visited before, back in the old days of film and darkrooms. I was single and could travel back then, but now I'm an old married lady with an understanding husband and grown sons who were kind enough to give me a Canon XSi five years ago on my birthday. My focus now is on local sites, including my backyard creek, auto junkyards, the Chicago Botanic Garden, Spring Valley Nature Center, the Illinois Railway Museum, and many other great facilities.

It's a pleasure to return to image-capturing pursuits, as it allows one a finer appreciation for the beauty of our planet and the many visual opportunities it offers. Although the switch to digital was tough at first, I have now embraced it and all the accoutrements, like Photoshop. A collector at heart, I traipse around adding details, landscapes, patterns, textures and colors to my toolbox, for use as straight images, as layers, or as ingredients in my composite work. I particularly enjoy ephemeral subjects--ice, water, fire--and deteriorating wood and metal things. And trees... And windows...

I seek new views, providing eye-opening and thought-provoking details you may have missed and creative composites that are entertaining and different. I use only my own images, and while the antique photos were not taken by me, they are all members or friends of my or my husband's families, not random antique store finds.

A trip abroad provided many new images to work with, and through Photoshop I have created architectural composites called "ReConstructions" of Venice, Switzerland and also some of Chicago. I hope you enjoy my work. Thanks for looking!

A word about aspect ratio. I sell prints in four sizes: square, 2:3 rectangles, 3:4 rectangles and 1:2 rectangles. Size options listed are to insure no cropping of the image, as I always compose full frame. For example, an 8 x 12 print can be custom matted, or will easily fit in an 11 x 14 frame with an 8 x 10 opening, but some of the image will be covered by the mat. I offer 10 x 15 prints which are the same ratio as 12 x 18 prints, but 10 x 15 fits better in a standard 16 x 20 frame. Square frames are increasing in popularity and are more easily available, but square images can also be mounted and matted to fit in rectangular frames. I will offer custom mounting and matting for an additional charge--please inquire about size options.

My Print Sets do not have individual listings for each component, but single images are always available. Please inquire, and I will create a custom listing for you.
