RETURNS: We want our hats to be in happy homes where they will be well cared-for. If your hat isn't working for you, we'll do whatever we can to rectify the situation. Please do let us know why you're asking for an exchange or refund - we take care in giving detailed listings and want to be sure our listings are not somehow misrepresenting our products. For MOST of our items (see exceptions below) we offer exchanges, and will accept returns as long as the hat is extremely well-packaged so that no damage occurs during shipping. We take great care in packing and shipping our hats so that the veils and feathers are not crushed during transit, so we expect the same from our customers on returns. Returns are assessed a $3 fee to cover listing costs, and return shipping is the responsibility of the customer. For exchanges, shipping of your replacement hat will also be charged to the customer. If your hat is not well packaged for its return to us and it arrives damaged, we will assess a repair fee of a minimum of $3. If the veil is crumpled due to poor packaging and has to be steamed and reshaped, the fee is $3. If the hat is otherwise damaged and needs to be sewn, fees will be assessed in relation to the time required to make the repair. We reserve the right to refuse to issue a refund if the hat is unrepairable.

EXCEPTIONS: For extremely unusual custom orders (uncommon color combinations, etc.) and for very customized bridal veils, we will only accept items for return or exchange if there is a problem in construction, or if we feel that we will be able to resell the hat. We go through an extensive design approval process with customers for custom orders, so there should be no surprises in what you receive. But again, we'll do whatever is possible to make sure that you are happy with your purchase, and that our hats will be in homes where they are loved and cherished.

PLEASE NOTE that we ONLY issue refunds by Paypal. If you paid by check or money order, we still will only send refunds via Paypal. You will need to register with them in order to receive your funds. They will send you an email that will guide you through the process.

PAYMENT: We accept Paypal, checks and money orders. We expect Paypal payments when a purchase is made. If you are having some kind of problem with your Paypal account, just let us know what is happening so we know not to cancel your order. If you are sending a check or money order, please notify us when you place your order, and please mail your payment within three days. We expect to receive mailed payments within two weeks of purchase. Hats will not be fabricated or sent until payment has cleared. PLEASE NOTE WITH CHECKS: Banks require that we wait TEN DAYS after a check has been deposited to ensure that it clears.

PLEASE be sure your Etsy shipping address matches the one you have listed in Paypal! You can change your address in Paypal under your profile while you are checking out!

FABRICATION TIME: Please note that all of our hats are custom made by hand. Unless a hat is specifically listed as being in stock, most of our hats are custom made once an order has been placed. This can usually be done in a few days, but it can take up to a week if we have a significant number of orders. If you need your hat by a specific date, let us know when you place your order. On the RARE occasions when I am traveling, fabrication time may take longer than a week -- please check the SHOP ANNOUNCEMENT at the top of the main store page for any alerts about the store closing or my being out of town.

RUSH ORDERS: If you need your hat in an extremely short timeframe (less than a week) we may be able to expedite your order but we will assess a rush fee, which is $20 for birdcage veils and $10 for all other hats. You also will be required to pay for the additional shipping charges of overnight or two-day delivery. If you place an order for a made-to-order item and want it overnighted by THE NEXT DAY, you are asking for SAME DAY fabrication. We may be able to accommodate your request, but in this case we will charge DOUBLE for your item as the rush fee, and you will also have to upgrade your shipping to overnight. We can send you a separate Paypal invoice for such charges.

U.S. SHIPPING: We ship via USPS Priority Mail for $5 unless you specify otherwise. Priority Mail is not tracked or insured, but the post office does now include delivery confirmation with priority mail. Priority Mail takes around 2-3 days although this is not guaranteed. Recently we've had Priority Mail take FIVE days to arrive, so please plan accordingly. If, say, your wedding day is in less than a week, we strongly urge you to avoid disappointment and upgrade to Express Mail, which is guaranteed two-day delivery and costs around $25. If you would like insurance for your hat in shipping by US Priority Mail, please let us know before you purchase and we will add it to your shipping. The cost depends on the price of the hat but is usually less than $2. Please note that UPS has recently raised their rates a great deal, so in some cases it may be less expensive to use USPS Express Mail instead.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: We are happy to ship anywhere! Email us BEFORE you purchase and we can update the listing to include shipping specifically to your country, so you will have the right total at checkout. Usually we do NOT ship internationally via US Postal Service regular mail, because this can be unreliable and this can take several weeks to arrive. We prefer to ship by USPS International Priority Mail, which takes around 6-10 days (although this is not guaranteed). You can confirm rates from the US to your country at usps.com, and we can quote you a shipping rate before you purchase. HAT PACKAGING: Rest assured that we take extreme care in packing your hat for shipping to you. These are our babies and we give them only the best treatment! We pad out the veils with tissue paper to make sure they are not crushed, we carefully wrap the entire hat and its feathers in ample padding, and we cover the package in cellophane wrap to protect from any potential water damage. Please note that hat veils, particularly birdcage veils, are nonetheless unavoidably somewhat constrained during packaging. We suggest that you let your hat sit on a stand after you unwrap it to allow the veil to hang to its full extension and restore itself to its intended fullness.

SHIPPING TO ALTERNATE OR GIFT ADDRESSES: If you pay using Paypal, it is Etsy's policy that sellers ship to the same address listed in Paypal. You can update your Paypal address, or add a new address to use just for that transaction, while you are completing your purchase with Paypal. If you hit a snag, let us know and we'll help you out!

FEEDBACK: We greatly appreciate feedback from customers once your hat arrives, so we know it turned up safely and you are happy with your purchase. We will leave you feedback when your hat ships, so you know your hat is on its way.

CUSTOM ORDERS: Some of our hat listings offer options (such as button or veil color choices, attachment methods or detatchable veils). If you'd like one of these options, please place a note with your order - there is a spot on your purchase page to do this. If you'd like some kind of modification to one of our listings, we're happy to accommodate you whenever possible. Send us a message letting us know what you'd like and we'll make sure we have appropriate materials in stock.

We are also happy to take orders for custom hats. Send us a message letting us know what colors you'd like, and we will let you know what's possible. If you're looking for a particular style in a color combination that we don't have listed, chances are that we do have the materials in stock, but we just haven't gotten around to making a hat in that color yet. So just let us know what you'd like, and we're happy to pin together some designs for you to approve before you purchase. We do not charge extra for custom orders, unless your hat requires materials that must be custom ordered or requires some kind of extra labor. Once you have approved your design, we can set up a private etsy listing for you to purchase.

REDESIGNS: Please note that we must impose a limit of three rounds of redesigning at no charge - if you require more than three redesigns to approve your order, we will impose a fee of $10 for the added time required to complete your design.

CARING FOR YOUR HAT: To make sure that you don't crush your veil during storage, we strongly recommend the use of a hat stand. You can make one easily and inexpensively using a few items from a craft store. For instructions and photos, please check our blog at joeireedhats.livejournal.com. You can also use a foam mannequin head or wig stand, which can usually be purchased in larger beauty stores for around $5. Otherwise, we recommend that you store the hat on its side or over the edge of a shelf to keep your veil straight and neat. If your veil does become wrinkled, you can straighten it with steam from an iron set on a low to medium temperature.
