Announcement   Welcome to Bird and Bear the etsy shop of artist Joetta Maue.

Joetta Maue is full time artist, curator, and arts writer. Her most recent body of work is a series of embroideries and images exploring the conflicts and contradictions that exist within intimacy. Joetta’s work resides within the realm of the everyday, everyday objects, autobiography, and the female. She is especially interested in the role of personal relationships in our lives, seen in our most intimate moments and spaces.

The role of craft practices such as embroidery and knitting are essential to her work because of their slow meditative labor and their role in the history of the woman’s voice. All of the linens used in her work are re-appropriated handmade linens creating collaboration between her and women of the past.

Joetta’s work has been shown extensively throughout galleries and museums across the country. Most recently at solo shows at the Textile Arts Center in Brooklyn, NY & Arts Place, Portland, IN. & the exhibit Self- Fabricated at The Art Complex Museum in Duxbury, MA.

Joetta authors the popular textile arts blog Little Yellowbird as well as being a regular contributor to the online journal Mr. X Stitch & the Surface Design Association Journal. Joetta is a freelance curator who has curated 5 recent NYC exhibits focusing on contemporary fiber works. She has been featured in the books Indie Craft and PUSH Stitchery as well as Needle Magazine, Fiber Arts Now Magazine, and the Surface Design Association Journal.

Joetta shares her life with her husband, son, and 2 cats.

It took a little too long from when I placed the order to when I received the item. Nonetheless, I received it in perfect condition.
