Announcement   PLEASE NOTE:
I have changed direction and am exploring ideas and technique and materials that have been bubbling under for a long time. I hope you will enjoy following along with the new work as much as I enjoy making it. You can find the last of the products I used to make in the sale section of my shop.

'I think of shadows, of water rippling, of leaves shaking in the wind, the weathering of surfaces and layering of events, flickering flames, memories of our ancestors.'

I use porcelain as my canvas, using simple tools to draw on and into the surface and applying slips as paint, exploring concepts as diverse as zen buddhism, neolithic tool making and shamanistic ritual.

As well as my ceramic pieces, I also use photography and mixed media to further investigate ideas, and write prose and poetry to complement my visual work.

Originally from Cork in the Irish Republic, I trained at Chelsea School of Art and Brighton University where I received a BA (Hons) in 3D Design (Wood, Metal, Ceramics and Plastics).

I am a writer, ceramist, artist and teacher, exploring ideas through a range of media, and have a background in healing, massage and meditation, all of which inform my work.

I have an MA in Therapeutic Bodywork from the University of Westminster.

About

The beauty of living with porcelain. Designs to keep, not throw away. For Christmas, weddings, and special occasions.

I studied Wood, Metal, Ceramics and Plastics at Brighton University, but didn’t work in craft for a while after graduating. I got a studio once my children were old enough and gradually found I was spending more and more time there until eventually I realised it had better be my job. Now I can’t imagine doing anything else.

I work in a shared studio at Cockpit Arts Holborn along with my studio manager Kim. It’s a great part of London – full of history and atmosphere, and a friendly and supportive environment. The chances are when I leave work I’ll be in a better mood than when I arrived!

If you were a fly on the wall at our studio, you would be forgiven for thinking you were at a bakery! We use similar techniques to making biscuits – rolling out the finest porcelain clay into slabs and then using a selection of cookie cutters and templates to cut out a variety of shapes. These are then stamped with a rich array of textures using our vintage stamps and found objects, before being fired in one of our kilns. They are then glazed in our soft glossy colours to create a lovely mix’n’match batch of goodies. Our Christmas beauties are then handpainted with lusters containing real gold and platinum for a lush, timeless finish and fired for a third time.

In fact, in our studio it's Christmas all year round as we are constantly developing new ideas, designs and planning our holiday season.

Our products are quirky and fun but beautiful quality. We are conscious of ecological issues with throwaway design, so we try to design gifts that have emotional value without being sentimental. Most of our products fit in the palm of your hand, and a lot of what we do is personalised and made to order.

We do every job in the business ourselves, from taking photos to PR, marketing, design and making, and we love every aspect.

We want our customers to enjoy the whole experience of shopping with us, and will always do our utmost to make each transaction relaxed and pleasurable from start to finish!

As well as our off the peg products, we specialise in wedding favours, Christmas decorations, corporate gifts and large and small commissions.

I work in porcelain and really like to make quirky gifts and items for special occasions, using the material in a surprising way. I stamp the surface using a mixture of found objects, new and vintage stamps. Porcelain has a unique quality, taking impressions better than any other clay, and with a shows colour better too.

'I'm lucky enough to have a job I love. I aim to make gifts that really mean something. There’s nothing quite like the buzz of knowing someone’s bought something that I’ve made that they really love, whether it’s for themselves or a gift. You can’t beat that.'
