About

The Story of Red Greene's Garage

Red Greene was my grandfather, a mechanic by trade who could take almost any old thing and bring it back to life. My grandmother is a carpenter and seamstress, so between the two of them, they could make almost anything or at least make anything broken work again. Theirs was a time in which, if you needed it, you made it, and if it broke, then you fixed it rather than throwing it away.

I want for our shop to be a tribute to that philosophy, that old things are worth saving and that there is an inherent importance to handmade crafts.

I think that my grandparents’ influence is what fuels my interest in the vintage and the handmade. The most pleasing and gratifying experience for me is to create a thing or to resurrect a thing from obscurity.

Our Etsy shop has grown from this history and the things we love to do, making pottery, crafting, and taking photographs. We are both fascinated by the processes that have been used in the past for these media. There is something amazing about watching a photo develop like our grandparents would have fifty years ago, making a pot the same way it's been done for centuries, or upcycling an old sweater into something new. There is a bit of the past in every traditional process we use and every vintage item we salvage.

I hope that you enjoy browsing through our shop and even find something to which you can connect.

Additional policies and FAQs
ABOUT OUR CAMERAS:
All of our vintage cameras are about 40 - 60 years old, so please understand that there may be some imperfections due to age. Most of these cameras have been in storage for a long time and may retain a slightly musty odor, however I clean each camera thoroughly inside and out with a mild cleaner. Although our cameras come from various places, we are a non-smoking home and are sensitive to scents, so we do our best to ensure that your camera is as clean as possible. We take time and care selecting, cleaning, and testing our cameras. We only sell cameras that we would personally use or give as gifts.

FUTURE MAINTENANCE:
Please remember that part of maintenance for a Polaroid camera includes periodically cleaning the rollers or spreader bars between film changes as chemicals from the film will build up and eventually cause corrosion. Batteries can also cause damage over time, so it is a good idea to remove the battery when the camera is not in use for an extended period.

Pottery:
Please note that all of our pottery is handmade; therefore, no two pots are alike. We hope that you can appreciate each pot's unique character.
Due to our busy teaching schedules, we are currently unable to accept custom orders for pottery.

Vintage Items:
We do our best to describe our items as accurately as possible. Please keep in mind that these items have aged and will not be in new condition.
