Johnny Bombshell
I bought my first vintage dress at a thrift store when I was 16 years old, and I wore it until it literally fell apart nearly twenty years later. I've always enjoyed the thrill of the hunt in thrift stores and at estate sales. I can't resist pulp paperbacks; cookbooks; vintage Pyrex; photos of Adele Astaire; and anything art deco.
I was born and raised in New Orleans, and I lived there for three decades. I earned a BA in English from Loyola University and have no idea if this was any use during my subsequent years as a supervisor at Tower Records in the French Quarter. I also worked for Barbie Bazaar magazine as a writer and photographer, and established a good reputation as a vintage Barbie dealer.
I left home in 2002 to travel around Europe, and I settled in West Hollywood when I returned to the States. Much to my surprise, I love it here. I am living the dream in a 1923 Spanish bungalow courtyard (James Cagney was my neighbor here, once upon a time).
I started selling second-hand clothing online when I moved to L.A. Johnny Bombshell has been a full-time registered business since 2005. I sell vintage clothing on Etsy, and contemporary designer clothing on Poshmark.
