This drawing is absolutely incredible! And it has a special meaning to me because I happen to have scoliosis myself :)

Lovely piece of art to add to my collection of male figure drawings! Thanks goes out to Jon who stuck with me through a slow shipping nightmare (that was the USPS's fault) but I finally got it. Cheers!

About

A life, drawing

"Drawing is the honesty of the art. There is no possibility of cheating: It is either good or bad." - Salvador Dali

I've been drawing all my life, and my teenage dream was to be a Disney animator. After leaving school I spent four years studying classical animation in Bournemouth and Dublin. During this time I made an award-nominated short film, learned from some of the greats and had a day's life drawing every week for four years. Then, just as I left, the whole industry vanished in a puff of CGI smoke, studios everywhere switching from pencils to pixels. Drat.

Fast forward to now, and although artwork is very much *not* part of my day job - alas! - it remains and continues to be an essential part of my life, without which I'd be lost. I’m just as enthusiastic and excited about art as I was 10, 20 years ago. A day doesn’t go by without at least one drawing, no matter what.

I work in a variety of media, happily going from pencil to paintbrush to pastel in a single session, alive to the strengths and potential of each. I've learned to shunt myself out of comfort zones whenever it starts to get too easy, never sticking with one media or style for too long without going somewhere new.

My background in animation is reflected in my artwork. I try to approach every landscape with a cinematographer’s eye, carefully composing the final piece. My figure work thrives on energy, the importance of capturing the feel of a pose, the life, mood and energy of a model. While I strive for a realism that feels right, I’ve no desire for precise photo-realism – I want to produce artwork that evokes a feeling, from a taut physical pose to a still, calm seascape.

There’s plenty of good artists out there, but very few with such a background, that dedicated focus on capturing the spirit and force of the figure. The discipline of working straight from the landscape or the life model, rather than from photographs. Staying true to this dedication and discipline, without getting tied down to a particular style or medium, keeps my work fresh, varied and always changing.

Selling my artwork on Etsy encourages me, inspires me, driving me to be a better artist. There’s no point in churning out the same old pictures – I want my work to evolve, improve, building on my strengths. I aim to provide gallery-quality work at fair prices. I want my work out there on walls across the world. Good original artwork shouldn’t be the preserve of the wealthy.

I’m honoured by every order. I know these aren’t cheap, everyday purchases – they’re something special, reflected in the price. The best way to show my gratitude for every order is to provide the best customer service I possibly can. All of my orders are packaged with the utmost care – each original piece is a one-off and means something to me. With so many orders coming from international customers, the utmost care is taken to protect the artwork as it travels over oceans, crossing continents. The thought that my artwork is hanging on walls across the world, in places I’ll never get to go myself, is a HUGE buzz. Fly, my pretties, fly!

To draw, to paint, without compromising my principles or beliefs in any way for the sake of a quick buck, and then to have others appreciate that work to the extent that they’ll pay hard-earned money for it – well, it doesn’t get much better, does it?
