Updates

I’ve been enjoying making some more rustic style beads like these big hole disc beads. As well as the aging process I often use I’ve been experimenting with surface texture, either cutting into the hot glass or partly melting in frit or glass.
Here are some of the glass rods I use to make your beads. This is just a small selection. If you would like to learn about the glass I use in a bit more detail then take a look at my blog. www.josephinewadmandesigns.co.uk/blogs/news
Lots of new beads just listed. Don’t you love the way the silvered glass makes the ivory glass react to give the crackled, veining effect on the surface.

The Fascination of Molten Glass

I started making jewellery along with a friend after our daughters joined a jewellery making club at school. We sold our work at house parties and craft fairs. Soon afterwards I came across the website of a lampwork beadmaker and was amazed to find that it was possible to my own beads. After a month or so of practicing on my own I was hooked and I took a course with Barbara Mason at The Old Kennels in Devon. I have been making beads ever since.

Working with glass in the flame is exciting and fascinating. There are days when inspiration is lacking but I am always glad to get back to the torch after a break. There are so many different looks and effects that can be achieved; the light shining through beautiful transparent coloured glass; the ancient look of opaque glass treated in the flame pit the surface; the exciting effects of some of the newer silvered glasses.

I sell most of my beads to other makers but I also supply a small number of galleries here in Cornwall with jewellery featuring my beads.

I live in Cornwall and enjoy walking along the beautiful local coastline. When I’m not working on my beads I like cooking, painting and gardening.

Wilbur enjoys sleeping. He hates my laptop because he thinks my lap is just for him. He is a Dreamies addict and is no longer allowed them as he turns into a monster if he does.
