josephinewadman's Shop Announcement

Handmade lampwork beads and jewellery by Josephine Wadman SRA.
Rods of glass are melted in an open flame and wound on to a steel mandrel. Layers of colour are built up often combined with pure silver foil and enamel powders. Once the design is complete and the shape correctly formed then the bead is transferred to a hot kiln. The glass is held at annealing temperature allowing the stresses caused by the lampwork process to be removed. Later the kiln cools gradually to room temperature. When the glass is cold the steel mandrel is removed leaving the hole for threading the bead. Sometimes beads are acid etched to give a frosted or matte finish.
