Life is a Journey...keep the memories.

Hello, I'm Kris. I started Journey Designs as a way to honor my father who passed away years ago from Alzhiemers, more recently to honor my mother who passed away from Lymphoma, to celebrate my faith and to explore my creativity. I don't have any formal training in the arts (unless you count all those high school art classes,) but I have always loved to create. I was an elementary school teacher long ago deciding to stay home when my oldest was born. I am constantly trying new things; sewing, needle work, painting, jewelry making and many other types of crafting. I am a hunter and gatherer when it comes to DIY finding a tremendous amount of inspiration to make our house our home.

Each piece in my shop is lovingly handmade in my home studio located in the heart of Illinois where I live with my husband and our four kids. Every bead is a one of a kind. Offering both religious and non-religious items allows lots of choices for many different people. Many new ideas come from collaboration with customers who request custom items.

I love what I do! In a way this has become my life's mission, not just my work. In creating I am able to touch other's lives in a way that has a tremendous amount of meaning. Every time I get a thank you or I am told that one of my pieces brought tears to their eyes I know that this is what I was meant to do.

Due to the process involved in making the dried flower beads, each piece will take 1-4 weeks for completion once flowers are received. Darker colors (red, pink, purple, yellow, etc) will darken and show up bolder in the beads while white or pale colors have a subtle effect. Orange will generally turn brown and white will be shades of cream to yellow to brown, please consider this when choosing your flowers. Please note I cannot control how the flower particles will look in the completed bead as each color and type of flower reacts differently during the curing process.
If you would like to add more color to white flowers please contact me to discuss adding a bit of another type and color of flower.

Smaller items will only require a single rose or flower. If you are ordering multiple items, 1-2 roses or 2-3 other flowers will be required to make the beads. The flower petal rosary will need 1-2 roses. Please contact me if you have any questions.

Flowers can be fresh or dried before shipment. To ship simply remove the stem and if you would like the petals, then wrap the flowers in a paper towel. Put this into an envelope or box, please do not use any plastic if the flowers are fresh. Please contact me for the shipping address.

*Please note I will save your flowers for one year in case you would like to order more items.*

Additional policies and FAQs
Special Note:
The clay I use to make the beads is a translucent polymer clay. When mixing in the dried flower petals the result is always unique. Each type and color of flower reacts in a different manner. Also the beads are handcrafted which means there is a slight variation in the size and shape. I like a bit of freeform and that the beads are not uniform. The result of this is each bead is beautiful and original.

Drying Flowers:
I do suggest the flowers are dried prior to sending them to me. Once petals are dry they can be shipped in a plastic bag, if petals are not completely dry they can rot.
If you would like advice on how to dry flowers please contact me.

Please do not use harsh chemicals or boiling water to the clean pieces.

Water Resistant:
Items are water resistant not water proof, therefore I do not recommend putting the pieces in water for long periods of time.
