Reducing waste and living my dream
Ever since I was old enough to use a sewing machine, I have been making, making, making. My obsession started around age 8 with creating American Girl Doll clothes from scrap fabric belonging to my mama. The obsession has since migrated into the daily sewing I do now as a mom of 3.
During college I sat my more creative self on the back burner, and picked up a job in retail, working my way up to management. When my son was born, I decided the time spent with him was worth more to me than anything, and I became "just a stay at home mom." I spent a number of years looking for something to occupy my time and give me a sense of achievement and accomplishment outside of just those moments found in my motherhood.
My mom and husband both encouraged me for years to start a business with the things I love the most- creating and repurposing. After my oldest daughter was born, I started creating hair bows for her out of old shirts of my own that were too worn out to wear daily anymore, but still had life left in them. I worked constantly on my patterns, adapting each hair bow until I felt it was an item that could stand up to constant wear and tear of little babes. I changed all the small things I hated about the bows I was buying, and made sure my creations could last longer than just a few wears.
After my youngest daughter was born, I finally decided to make the hobby I absolutely loved into a business.
I haven't looked back for a second, and I am so thrilled to say I have found something that makes my heart beat happy. Repurposing articles that would otherwise be thrown away lets me dive deep into my creative side, and it gives me a sense of fulfillment in creating something new out of an item that would have otherwise been thrown away.
I absolutely adore creating, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to share my passion with others.
