Art with a Twist
I started selling soap 20 years ago. At that time melt and pour was for sale every where, even at Wal-mart. It was easy to buy a mold, melt the soap, add some fragrance and viola: a bar of soap. So many people were making it that I knew I had to find a nitch market so I started putting things inside the soap. I learned that you couldn't go to the toy store, buy a toy and put it in soap and charge for a new toy and the soap. That made my pricces just too dear, so I started buying bulk toys at sales and garage sales. Most of my toy soaps are below the cost of the toy if purchased new. I also have some vintage toys that are hard to find and I hope when they are bouht the person keeps the toy as a collector's item.
I also have some jewelry and vintage items for sale.
A little bit of everything!
I love to collect toys and set them in soap. When I first started to make toy soaps about 12 years ago I added fragrance but I found too many parents objected to any sort of additives as they were afraid their children would be allergy or there would be something in the fragrance oil or essential oil that would be harmful. I now make pure glycerine soap with no additives of any kind for my toy soaps. At Christmas I sell many of these soaps at craft fairs. I just love it when little or big boys for that matter, stop by my table and just have to have a bar of soap! I always remind them that is soap you are asking for. I bet you never wanted a bar of soap before!
My soaps are a mixture of what is called melt and pour soap and cold process soap. I love the fluid nature of melt and pour soap but it usually very soft so I add rebatched cold process soap to my melt and pour soap batches to make the soap harder.
I am now experimenting with making "art" soaps trying out new techniques. I love steampunk and am designing soaps with steampunk elements.
I have just started making jewelry and hope to add more pieces as I master the different techniques. I have setup a 2nd web site where I will be displaying the jewelry for sale.
I am always adding new items, so check back often.
