About

Through the Bead and Back...

... that’s the way my needle travels, connecting tiny beads together, one at a time. Like a child plays with sand, I have been playing around with seed beads for years as a way to pass time, until I was asked to create jewelry for others and now beads have earned a permanent place in my life.

I am obsessed with tiny seed beads! Before I was able to put them together into something wearable, I would carry them around in a small vial – they just seemed so perfect to me. There is a perception out there that beadwork is too fancy, not modern enough, and not for everyday wear. What a misconception! I focus on making beaded jewelry that is easy to wear any day, without the need for an elaborate outfit or a special occasion. My minimalist tendencies in design help me with that, while the best quality seed beads feed my need for perfectly aligned components and help achieve precision in my work.

I am fascinated with how simple shapes of individual beads can come together into a wonderful creation and I spend many fulfilling hours weaving these teeny-weeny bits into one wearable piece. There is some math, some structure to the way the final look is achieved, and although I strive for visual balance in my designs, this does not always mean symmetry (though that appeals to me as well). As I create, I am continuously aware of how the constraints of our time play against the unlimited possibilities of beads. I try to capture as many of these as I can. This William Blake’s verse reflects how I think about beadwork: “To see the world in a grain of sand and to see heaven in a wild flower, hold infinity in the palms of your hands and eternity in an hour.”

While I create for my own enjoyment, I am deeply honored when others appreciate my work and want to wear it.
Have a delightful day!

Among other things, I have training in Graphic Design and Fashion Pattern making. After having traveled quite a bit, I have finally settled with my family in Massachusetts. I love the smell of roses from my garden and the laughter of my children.
