Announcement   I was born on an Air Force Base in Tokyo, Japan and had the good fortune to grow up there for eight years before moving to Monhegan Island, Maine. Growing up in a spectacular and rich culture gave me an appreciation for art, history, design, and environment that's carried over to my craft. Living on Monhegan Island has also contributed to my work by providing a community and scenery that inspires and cultivates originality and craftsmanship. All of my work is channeled through the energy and soul of the places I've traveled to, lived in, and learned from.

I began knitting when my elementary school teacher on Monhegan Island, Maine first taught me at age ten. At the time, it seemed too tedious to keep up with and, like most, I set fiber arts aside in pursuit of other things with more instant gratification. A few years later, I picked the needles up again and this time, I couldn't put them down. Since then, I've taught myself to crochet, construct and write my own patterns, and translate my work with fiber to my work with beads. With every piece, I strive to make something that will really speak to an individual's personality, heart, and soul. I want my creations to be worn and enjoyed by those who really feel something about them; warmth, security, reflection, radiance, passion, zen.

About

From the road side, to Winter Works, to Etsy!

I've always had a creative streak, starting when I was really little. Around age 10 I decided to try selling a few things on a little rock on the side of the road on Monhegan. Lots of kids had always done lemonade stands and bake sales to try and make a few dollars and it worked out well, so I decided to try selling my crafts instead. For a little kid, it took off! A few years later, I joined Winter Works, which is the co-op craft store across the road from where I sold my things as a little kid. I started selling bigger items in there and continued with it through high school and college. Once I started working in the veterinary world and now at Idexx labs, I decided it would be a good transition to try my own online shop. I wanted to keep the connection to Monhegan since that's what got me started, so I came up with the name Monhegan's Rainy Day Creations. :)

Outside of my creative bubble I love everything animal related. I went to the University of New England for biology, worked in veterinary hospitals for three years, and spend a lot of time with my horse, Frolic.

As I say in my profile, much of my work is inspired by Monhegan Island and the many spectacular and beautiful views, places, people, and moments it offers. My work is also unique in that I very rarely use patterns to create my pieces. Instead, I make them up as I go along and often leave small quirks and seemingly "mistakes" as they are rather than "fixing" them. I believe it adds a personal touch that is both random and unique so that each item is a 'one and only'.

Additional policies and FAQs
I absolutely love making custom items, of all types, for people. If you're ever looking for something as simple as a personalized scarf or something as outlandish as a pair of knit shorts, I am more than happy to assist in your new creation! Also, if you see something in my shop that you want more of let me know. I usually only make an item once and then move on to a new project but if you want more than one of the same thing I am happy to get the materials to make more! :-)
