Announcement   I make art.

I love colour and texture. I paint to capture light and to explore colour relationships. The paintings are usually pure abstraction but I occasionally have an object that I need to paint before I get back to the colour work. I use oils and acrylics and build up many layers and glazes.

In these paintings apparent simplicity, the simplicity inspired by modernist idealism, is upon closer inspection full of nearly hidden detail. The longer you spend looking the more is revealed to you, the more is made visible. The subtlety of transparent layers serves the primary purpose of capturing light within the structure of the paint but it also serves to conceal and obscure except for those who spend time looking; time alone reveals the full picture and this can create a meditative space.

When I need to use sequence or groups or concept, I make artists' books. These are just art that uses the format of a book. Mine usually use drawing and photography with text.

We look at paintings and books in different ways. I think that when you look at a painting you see it all at once and then you begin to look at its individual parts. Whereas with a book you look at its parts first and then you put them together into a whole. And a book is a more private experience because you hold it in your hands (though people looking at one of my books often call their friend over and say here look at this).

I have been told a few times that my paintings get better the longer you look at them. I think that's great!

Note:
I love paint. I am a painting materials geek. I use high quality materials, prepare the support properly and create the layers of the painting properly. The quality materials, the many stages of preparation and the correct creation insure that the artwork is properly made. It will not fade, crack, flake, stain through, peel, or deteriorate in ways that inferior artwork might.
As with all artwork you will need to care for it properly and I can provide any advice and answer any questions you have about this.

Hello! Welcome to my little shop!

I make art because I love to. I love the big wondrous questions and the little amazing moments. Making art is fun and interesting. I love to see what comes out!

I also love colour, it is usually my first consideration when making an object. So I just want to make sure that you are aware that the colours may vary slightly because of the colour calibration of each individual monitor.
