very amusing... speedy delivery... excellent seller
I'm a squirrel.
I originally trained as textile designer at Winchester College of Art, specialising in print. Since then I have worked in numerous disciplines from illustration to sculpture and create diverse, themed pieces. I have recently moved to Gloucestershire and now live in the beautiful town of Winchcombe.
Being in a new environment has completely inspired me to capture the true essence of this working town. The folk here are lovely, extremely interesting, hard working and friendly. They remind me of the people back at the place I still call ’home’ – ‘the rock’ - Jersey in the Channel Islands. I am used to a real community full of warm and friendly people. For the last 6 months I have been focusing on local tradesmen and classical portraiture on traditional materials. I machine and hand stitch my pieces with a faithful old retro sewing machine (borrowed from my Mum at the start of my University days, years later still not yet returned! – Sorry Mum.) It simply goes back and forth enabling me to create unique characteristics, much like the characters and content of my portraits. I am now known as ‘The Blanket Lady’ (which of course I quite like) due to my work being talked about around the town and my constant requests to locals for their old blankets.
I currently have two very different styles of work running in parallel. These are constantly developing and have formed a group of many ‘anthropomorphic’ characters that have been adopted by admirers. These creations indulge a very playful, ‘youthful’ side of me. They are usually based on the people I see, how they dress, their interests and the way they stylise themselves. I love to people watch and figure out what animal they would become in this strange ‘anthropomorphic kingdom’ of mine. I’m a squirrel.
I have many projects underway, have taken on many portraiture commissions and create custom made dolls based on specific characters. Please contact me if you wish to discuss future projects.
