Announcement   Welcome to the wonderful world of handmade Nature Art in colored pencil. Where you can purchase a colorful, lively work of art that reflects your love of nature and wildlife.

My originals are on Canson papers and boards. My prints are created with archival inks, and paper.

I've been working as a nature artist in colored pencil for over twenty years. I primarily work on colored papers, and use a large variety of colors with a light layering to achieve a depth of color, yet maintain a softness of the subject.

I started out doing colored pencil on wood, a nature jewelry line called- On the Wild Side, but also whimsical wall pieces, and cover plates for wall switches. I felt the urge to work larger and started a series of anthropomorphic creatures that includes; owl-human, leopard-human, turtle-human, and chameleon-human, to name a few. These pieces have a dash of humor, the subject seems to know something, and the viewer can only guess what that is!

Nature and animals have always played an important part in my life. As a child I was constantly exploring my environment, and always amazed by the natural world- and really felt privileged to be included in it. I hope that appreciation of the wild world comes through in my work.

The process of creating an art piece includes extensive research of all the species I’m including in a piece, or if it is an anthropomorphic piece I also need to decide on the human features to be included, and especially hone the facial features. I then create a rough compositional sketch, followed by a reworked compositional drawing, and then a transfer of that drawing onto the final art paper. Then a lot of pencil sharpening, and hopefully, not too much erasing!

Currently, I'm working on a nature series: Minnesota Species, which includes a variety of animal, plant and insect species within Minnesota, and the environments they share. I felt compelled to start this series when I became aware of the large number of species threatened in our state alone. Most of this threat is contributed to the loss of environment that these species need to thrive. I’m hoping to bring awareness of the species loss, and the importance of responsible stewardship of the land. I’ve also used a more stylized approach with this series to further distinguish it from my other work.

All of my work is a celebration of the variety of animal life; a tribute to nature's ability to awe and awaken within each of us our biological connection and spiritual need of the natural world. These pieces are a reminder to appreciate all animals in their uniqueness, not only because of our concern for nature's well being and balance, but also for our own well being and balance.
Enjoy!

Thank you for entering my shop.
I've been a colored pencil artist for many years, and I love the softness of texture but the vibrancy of color that this medium can create. Nature, animals, humor and whimsy have always been the base of my art. I enjoy doing a series of work so I can delve into an area of interest.
All of the work are originals by me. Copyrights to the originals are non transferable through sale, they remain with the artist.
